Developers should make clear statement about these hidden mechanics in game tutorial or something so we won't need to waste time searching for it here.
This makes sense....you don't contaminate seeds and plants meant for consumption with biological waste source materials.
Bare ground however will digest and transform it and absorb the useful nutrients, any harmful biological stuff is gone by the time seeds and plants grow on it.
Yes, as it is not made of poo and rotting stuff that can contaminate seeds and plants ...like bio fertilizer is.
I found that liquid fertilizer is only applied after sowing and solid only after harvest in game. I would like some diagnostic info but I do genuinely believe I have everything covered this time and that it’s actually a bug. I will test your observations about the dates of sold fertilizer application though.
You are most certainly correct for the in game mechanic. As such I connected a pipeline with a tank of liquid fertilizer to all my farms so that I don’t run out mid season. Yet still I have a few fields not fertilizing while others do.
Is fertilizer not being applied to fields that do not need it?
10-40% is the fertility rating. A functioning field stops applying solid fertilizer at 150% I noticed. So far the only way I’ve been able to fix the issue is by deleting the fields and replacing them.

Does building anything (roads, power lines, etc.) under or near the field cause it?
Supposedly being on disturbed ground causes the low fertility when placing a field, maybe this effect can be caused after placement?
