How to attach hopper cars on realistic mode?

so i'm playin on realistic mode, I have a basic rail network setup, I buy my first diesel train in the train depot.

but i notice the cargo wagons for the trains arnt in the depots, i figure this is a realistic mode thing, so i go check the customs house and sure enough the cargo wagons i want are there the aggregate ore hoppers.

I buy about 10 of them, and create a route for my deisel train to take to go pick them up and bring them back to the train depot

the train drives over to the customs house, parks for a second and drives off back to the depot without the wagons.

how do i attach my cargo wagons to my train?

You did correct so far as far as I can tell.
Make sure that you have selected to load vehicles / containers, and deselected "wait until loading".
Does your Loco have a chance to refuel?

On the route I click load at customs house, wait until loaded,

Unload at train depot.


I notice it will NOT let me click the little check button to select load vehicles at the custom house.


Where as before when I purchased a disassembled track layer and sent a truck to go get it it DID let me select that button

Just make sure to deselect wait until loaded.

Here what I do.

I have a railroad depot connect to a border building. I buy a little shutter. It goes to the depot, goes to a fuel station that is near by. At the border , I order , let say 10 wagons. I make a route for the shutter to pick up at the border. I select LOAD - vehicle only. And the next station - the rail depot , UNLOAD - vehicle only. And go. It only pick up 3 a a time, until all ten wagon are at the rail depot. At the depot, I shuffle them to the proper train, and set a route for the new train.
