Also the more you buy stuff the higher the prices get. So self sufficiency does contribute to the not going bankrupt aspect.
I managed to build the radio and the TV stations in one of my games without importing anything but the electronics. It was a proud moment, but I did have hundreds of workers lying around with no job for that.
If you start with only 1 Million Rubel it is nearly mandatory that you create your construction industry right from the start.
And it is a very nice gameplay to watch the trucks driving around carrying the materials from factories to construction sites etc.
I really like it more than starting with tons of money and just buy the stuff.
But .... everybody as he/she likes
Manual building is a million times cheaper.
Of course you can scale it exactly how you want though. You could produce the material yourself and just pay for the workers, or you can do the opposite or whatever else, depending on your situation.
Only buy the minimal things to survive, like your initial construction yard, and purchases of raw materials. Crash, burn, get up, wipe away the soot with your tears, and go start over again from scratch.
Is there even a question? This isn't SimCity, this is WWSR. You tears are lubricant for the factories
