When I build a 2 track line away from my existing network I use those to allow the track layers to go to the other side by creating a temporary X-switch.
I wish wooden rails could have powerlines over them. Theyd be much more useful for me for the rural routes.
I would use wooden tracks in many places if I would be able to build longer track at once. Like 100m of prefabs railroad vs 150m of wooden railroad.
Boards are also denser, so you can transport ~18% more tons of boards per trip than you can prefab panels. Since a given track length uses the same tonnage of boards as tons of prefab panels, you can get boards to remote RCOs with fewer/smaller trucks or faster than you could with prefab panels.
Boards are also a lot easier to make and much cheaper to buy compared to prefab panels.
1. The 'look' of the wooden rails feels more fitting to the overall asthetics of zhe game.
2. To simulate greater distances in the republic. With the lower speed trains take quite a while to get from A to B.
Unfortunately, instead of replacing only the sleepers, an upgrade of the wooden rails takes as much resources as building a track from scratch.
Well, I do not use wooden rails at all.
They are build with same speed as the concrete version and cost difference is minimal. Therefore they are pointless to implement.
All railroads in Syberia was like that prior 2010-s
It's a singe stage construction. To be able to upgrade just sleepers, it had to be separated into two phases I guess.
