Does anyone use wooden rails in an established republic?
Curious

I do that sometimes.
When I build a 2 track line away from my existing network I use those to allow the track layers to go to the other side by creating a temporary X-switch.

For RP reasons on branches that would never reqire catanary, but mainly as starting network on prepared map to have incensive to upgrade it later.

Yes, I use them for the rail builders and as switches for the rail builders

I wish wooden rails could have powerlines over them. Theyd be much more useful for me for the rural routes.
I saw that You need exactly the same amount of wood and prefabs for both rail tracks so what is the point of using woods? I guess it is only an option when there is no prefab panels and You just don't have them.
I would use wooden tracks in many places if I would be able to build longer track at once. Like 100m of prefabs railroad vs 150m of wooden railroad.
The lower speed limit is nice for saving fuel on short hauls by limiting the amount of acceleration a train will do (RPMs influence a train's power/fuel usage). No need trying to get up to speed when braking will just waste all the energy.

Boards are also denser, so you can transport ~18% more tons of boards per trip than you can prefab panels. Since a given track length uses the same tonnage of boards as tons of prefab panels, you can get boards to remote RCOs with fewer/smaller trucks or faster than you could with prefab panels.

Boards are also a lot easier to make and much cheaper to buy compared to prefab panels.

I am using wooden rails exclusivly in my republic for two main reasons.

1. The 'look' of the wooden rails feels more fitting to the overall asthetics of zhe game.

2. To simulate greater distances in the republic. With the lower speed trains take quite a while to get from A to B.

Still very little change compared to the price of steel...

Unfortunately, instead of replacing only the sleepers, an upgrade of the wooden rails takes as much resources as building a track from scratch.

Well, I do not use wooden rails at all.

True, but it is still about a ruble per meter cheaper, and you can cheaply setup a board industry to make it 2 to 3 rubles per meter cheaper than concrete tie tracks. Prefab panels are also used in a lot of other buildings, so it is best to avoid driving up their price too since you cannot cheaply build up the industries needed to make them.

i never use them.
They are build with same speed as the concrete version and cost difference is minimal. Therefore they are pointless to implement.

Yes! We need electrified wooden rails!!!
All railroads in Syberia was like that prior 2010-s

Yup. I hope that with garbage update we'll be able at least to demolish old tracks first to recover some scraps.
It's a singe stage construction. To be able to upgrade just sleepers, it had to be separated into two phases I guess.

Pretty much almost never...I generally play with hotkeys, and as little as I would use the wooden rail there is no spot for them...they do make sense for short term use, like for RCO cranes, but I just don't bother.

actually makes no sense to use them at all. uses same amount of steel and less speed. pointless to build. cost difference is the difference of cost between wood and concrete. construction time is same. i tested it all.

There are plenty of reasons to use them:
  • Setting up the boards industries are cheap, but the prefabs industries are not, so wooden rails get a lot cheaper (like 2 or 3 less rubles a meter) if you build wooden tied rails.
  • The lower speed is good for short runs where accelerating up to a higher speed is just a waste of fuel.
  • If you buy prefabs, you drive up the price for prefabs, which are needed in many commonly needed buildings.
  • Sometimes you want a longer transit time for passengers to manipulate the time they spend at work.

We could get half of it if there would be signs for rails to limit line speed.
