Keep in mind that metro trains can only use metro track, so you will need a metro track to connect it to your metro system.
Generally you will have to tow a new metro train into the train depot with a locomotive and then you can assign the metro train to a line in the metro.
You have to have a overground metro line which goes underground and then from there your actual line.
This means that every metroline needs a overground line. At least for getting the trains underground
OR just an underground connection to a metro line that has access to a depot. This is actually pretty commonly done IRL to avoid having to build multiple depots, just like here in the game.
