Can i edit a map that i'm playing on to change resources?
I started a random map on realistic mode and checked all resources locations at the start and was happy with it but now that i've developed my stuff i started to look to expand to the other resources beyond the basic and just noticed the uranium reserver i have (only one) is outside the usable map slightly beyong the borders and as theres no other patch i cant mine it

I know i can start over or import the raw material but i want to be self sufficient as much as i can and i dont mind if i have to cheat in a patch near the existing one just inside the borders instead of outside and wanted to know if thats possible

Idk tbh.
Just give it a try.
I guess you know the map editor.
Load your safe. Start the map editor.
Draw the resources.
Safe the game and crack on.

Sometimes I use the map editor for terraforming.
I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work with the resources.

Edit : I mean that cheat menue.
Press che simultaneously to activate the cheat mode.
Than click on the the settings on top left.
Than click on "Debug and cheats".
Than check the box "Landscape editor".

Yes, you can in the map editor. I've turned an unpopulated map into a populated one and tweaked the borders as well. I'm sure you can do the same with resources. Just work up the nerve to dive in.
Wait, can't it be done in cheat menu C+H+E?
Otherwise, after editing Your save in terrain editor You only need to copy back resources2.dds for uranium. For basic resources You need resources.dds. For gravel You need mask.dss.

From cheat menu but switching to map editor mode, just like MrKrabs described. You can switch between them freely no matter if you accesed it from proper game or map editor. It's the same, just with different menu and few functions locked. Just while accesing from game, you have manual saves for editor mode locked up. But starting from editor, you can enable cheats, exit editor mode, enable some lenses, return to editor mode and build services for starting town for example, seeing ranges for shops, substations etc. :)

I play around in the terrain editor and the only thing that's annoying is when the game autosaves it saves the map in a different place. Those saves show up under new game. If/when you get tired of them go to \SovietRepublic\media_soviet\save_terraineditor and delete everything there.

Haha, I remember that.
A while ago I had my autosave adjusted to a short interval.
I felt asleep when I was in editor mode.
I was wondering later on why I had so many maps at my menue.
🤣
