Report a translation problem
Imo it would be more realistic, even though the game doesn't really limit it that much, to put the highway over the rail line. However two other possibilities are:
- Form an indention and make the road go under allowing for a smooth rail bridge.
- Make a hill and cut the riad through it to make a smooth rail overpass.
You might also want to consider inverting your setup and sending the highway over the railroad rather than the railroad over the highway.
Nothing elegant here, in fact if I had thought about the road traffic being held up as it was due to the trams using the railway as frequently as they do I would have tried a better layout....

as it is that bridging option works, it allows unrestricted road access.
Simple to do, not sure about what you mean when you note "complicated". Sunken roads or embankments weren't really a possibility in the two examples above.
