How to start on island republic with realistic mode
So we have a long waited realistic mode update.
I want to start on an island republic, as I always do. There is no land connections.
I can not find any way to start from scratch.
Free helicopter or marine infrastructure is missing to do the very start.
Any suggestions?

Currently the only way to do this is disable RM at start, build the "starting" minimal infrastructure and then enable it again.

well ... to be honest ... this is not exactly, what I was expecting :/

Ok, I have built a helicopter construction office with money. Felt very bad about that, because I was expecting realistic mode with this update. I am always starting at 1960. And guess what ... there is not a single helicopter, that could carry cargo :D only passengers :D
Cmon guys ... this is deffinitelly not what I was waiting for - for two months.

Passenger helicopters can be switched to "cargo mode" by clicking a button on the helicopter window.

thanks, I will try.
Mabe you can give an advice, how to buy and transport vehicles from ocean customs to my island?

Well .. i tried to click on a helicopter from all possible sides. Could not find an option to change passenger mode to cargo mode :/ How You do it?
add an custombuilding on your isel and all your proplems are solved

You see ... that is the whole point of island republic. To trade via air and water. If You build an artifisial customshouse on an island, the whole point is lost.
i understand the proplem ...but the proplem is playermade and not in game now ...
so you add an custom building to start with the new patch ..or wait till developer get it into the game

Waiting till developer gets it into game could take forewer. No guarantee it will be implemented at all.
That is why I am looking for least harmfull to realistic playing shortcut. The very minimum things to do without realistic mode, and then to switch to realistic mode. That is what I am looking for.
you dont will understand it ....
It is in the game ..YOU need EDIT ...your iselmap and add an Harbor or an custombuilding

This...

I have a number of mods, that just wont function now due RM, as they where dependend on buying them, as there is no access to the object so workers can reach it. (alot of monuments, and other fluff items to dress up your town)

I cannot blame the game, mods are just now outdated and have to wait for the modders to update them, and if not.. i just have to abandon these mods and hope for new ones.

Guess same is now with certain usermade maps.

I haven't played the new mode yet, but you could auto buy some initial infrastructure and then enable realistic mode.

In addition to the normal buildings, you would need:

1. A small cargo harbor - this can handle all cargo except for aggregates.
  • Build a space for vehicles/containers and connect it to the harbor via a factory connection.

Assuming vehicles bought at the border are "new," you will be able to load them onto boats and unload them at the small cargo harbor into the space for vehicles/containers. The large variant also allows you to import trains this way, but you may or may not care about that.

If you can only buy vehicles at custom houses, you might want to open the landscape editor and place a small cargo harbor near a customs house at the border and just pretend it is that country's port. You can then shuttle vehicles over to the port for loading onto boats (you may also need a rail connection for larger vehicles, like harvesters). Do this first with cheats and you can reset your cash to whatever your settings give you.

  • Build an open storage yard (building mats), a fuel storage (fuel), a meat storage (meat), a dry bulk storage (cement), and a warehouse (everything else).

These will handle the other goods you will need. The small cargo harbor does not have enough factory connections for all of these, but you can unload all of these goods with trucks (faster) or connect them all with forklifts (cheaper, maybe; forklifts need their own paths, but you can substitute multiple types of trucks with them). If you choose to use trucks, put a road cargo station on the last factory connection of the harbor so there is no competition for the harbor's three parking slots.

The fuel will need to be unloaded by truck no matter what. You will also need to get fuel to the cargo harbor, but that can be done with the truck doing the unloading.

2. An aggregate unloading harbor - unfortunately, aggregates can only be exclusively handled on their own due to a hard-coded game limit, and airplanes/helicopters are not an option sadly (unless you mod it). You will need one for coal and gravel.
  • You will also need an aggregate storage yard for the gravel, as COs do not recognize harbors as a viable source of goods. You can link it directly via conveyors for a moderate cost or unload it via trucks.

  • You need coal for heating, and while you could use another hopper ship for storage, it is much cheaper (~1/20) to just build a small aggregate storage yard, dump a load of coal into it (don't overfill the ship) for the year and then use the ship for gravel. If you ferry foreign workers over, you could build this manually.

  • Alternatively, you could build a gravel industry and a coal industry, but those are far more expensive to buy and implement.

3. A small ship dock (if you cannot buy boats directly from the border) for the following boats:
  • Type 587 Los - for fuel delivery.
The Fullin Tanker is much cheaper, but is only available after 1969.
  • Hopper Ship - for coal/gravel
  • Ighnatov - for containers/vehicles and open hull building materials.
  • Volgobalt/Volgodon - for delivery of every other good.
You can combine the functions of the Volgobalt/Volgodon and the Ighnatov with the Frida, which can handle all types of goods and vehicles/containers (but it can only load vehicles/containers or goods at a time though, not both), but it is only available after 1982.
  • Moskvich motor ships - If you want to ferry foreign workers over. You will also need a small passenger harbor for them, but that can function as a bus stop for COs too.

Helicopters work too, but may cost more.

You could substitute a container unloading facility for the 'space for vehicles/containers' and warehouse, but you will not be able to import trains this way and you will need a separate tiny warehouse for electronic/mechanical components, as COs will not recognize container facilities (nor ports). This is only recommended if you want the ability to use containers, as a space for vehicles/containers and a regular warehouse are much cheaper.

With a CO, some power, and some construction buildings, you should be able to build up your republic with realistic enabled. Your money is going to hurt though, and it will be slow, but you can import any vehicle/mechanism and goods you need and you have all the buildings needed to continue.

Which map are you using? All the default maps have custom houses don't they?

Default maps do, but not all island maps people submit have custom houses.

This one, for example doesn't.
