Can't run underground heating pipes under railroad tracks?
Just curious if this is a bug or not. I found myself building a nice little city with a lot of rail tracks running through it, and as September was rolling around I thought it'd be wise to get heating running throughout my entire city. Turns out, I can only access about 1/3rd of my city because no matter what I do, the game informs me that "other infrastructure is in the way" when trying to run underground pipe.

Just curious what the deal is here. Thanks!

Have you tried lowering them by pressing Q or E?

TIL you can lower them even more, I'll try that out. Thanks!

When you have flat ground and want to lay down pipes under the tracks it does not work by game mechanic. But when you remove the tracks and lay down the pipes, you could redo the tracks without problems. This saves money for building the pipes but is more useful when planning pipes and tracks before (because of the costs of the tracks).

Good to know, thanks for the heads up! I've encountered a few scenarios like this with other buildings/roads before, where if you do A before B it works but B before A it doesn't.

Me too. Small addition. My post focused the hot water pipes. For sewage pipes I build first the tracks and then lay down the sewage pipes below them. :-)

I guess it is important to know that when you have to build mid segments of any lines you need choppers to do that. At least that's how it was.

A lot has been said, but I have to add that IRL, plumbing beneath rail lines is generally a bad idea. Any sort of piping is prone to breaking and trains are heavy animals, especially if we're talking freight. That's why generally, plumbing and piping usually goes over rail lines, not under them.

Besides, if you ever have to fix a leak or a broken pipe running under rail you'll have a hell of a lot of fun digging without affecting the embankment underneath the rail.

Sure, it's a game, but just something to keep in mind if you're roleplaying realism.

Those are all very good points, cannot argue with them in any way :)
