Western Cars
The road map shows that we will be gaining access to more western cars and vehicles in the future. As cool as this is it got me curious about the nature of western cars in the USSR and Puppet states, and what I found was interesting. In the USSR foreign cars were rare and difficult to get your hands on if you were a civilian... difficult, but not impossible. Plus, WE THE PLAYER aren't the USSR, we are a soviet republic. And if we want our people to have access to foreign cars then dammit we will.

The first three were apparently very popular as police cars, but supposedly wiggled their way into civilian hands.

BMW, Mercedes, and Ford (Specifically the Ford Galaxy)
These cars were FAST and luxurious especially when compared to your neighbor's Trabant. Their speed made them great interceptor and pursuit vehicles. These cars were the ones that started popping up more and more in the late 60s and throughout the 70s. More would come, but these were the big 3 in the early years.

As the years went on, more Western European cars started to make their way in. Volvo, Renault, Opel, Audi, Volkswagen, and recently I learned EVEN PORSCHE, Yeah! Porsche! The fancy expensive rear engine sports car? Yep! Apparently a few Porsche 911 Police cars made an appearance in the USSR!

Ford, Dodge, and even Japanese car brands started to become more available throughout the 70s and 80s as well. Although I haven't been able to find info what models were imported specifically. We can assume more police cars.

Obviously after the fall of The Soviet Union foreign cars flooded into the market. No longer restricted, people could buy western products without big brother hovering over their shoulder. One thing of note is that most civilians weren't allowed privately own trucks or 4x4 vehicles for private use unless they could really pull some strings. Those were "State" vehicles for work uses, not intended for civilians. After the fall however, it didn't really matter anymore. So late game it would be cool to see new vehicle types become available. I realize that the idea is that WE THE PLAYER are still a socialist state separate from the USSR so WE don't exactly fall like they do. But by the 90s the world began to globalize and it wouldn't make sense for us to not adapt into the brave new world. Foreign cars becoming more available shouldn't be too unusual.

I am just one guy, and this is just the result of one afternoon of research and videos. What do you guys think? Whats your opinion on foreign cars in Workers and Resources?

I am aware of that. But they will be adding more western cars to the base game at some point in the future.

I started 1917.
The horse carriage is to slow for my taste and play style.
The Mack Trucks are the driving force in my republic atm.
About cars I couldn't say to much yet due to lack of experience.
I would hope though they don't go over board with western stuff though it is suppose to be more Soviet related and would not be the same if to much stuff was foreign

The real question is: what is a foreign car?
A Ford or Porsche type car made by our brave citizens in the factories of our glorious Republic is not a foreign car. It's a car made here.
And that we can export with the label "made in here".

I think there is another question that needs answers;
Does the soviet union ever fail in this world?

I mean nothing ever changes, you can always buy and sell everything as you like.

Then FIAT's were produced in the eastern block under license.
Original cars and licensed variants are also treated equally (worth the same)
But there should be a carmaker from our republic.

There is currently no "need" for fancy cars because the head of state does not exist as a person. (Think of the mayors house in sim city)

I think that lot of western vehicles can make for interesting gameplays, completely cut off eastern style. Why not. Its a game, and if its only just vehicles to make double the fun from game, I am in. Who wants can, who dont want dont must.

This is an interesting proposition, the game does have a code for "Domestic Product" for vehicles so creative modders can make their own design and pass it off as the Republic's own product.

The Soviet Countries imported a lot of western cars that made into their police forces or CONVENIENTLY into the hands of Party Members. Some wealthy citizens could get them though.

Ironically after the fall of The Soviet Union, old soviet cars became cool and imports became the normal cars. Car culture did a flip.

Yugoslavia as non-aligned Socialist country had a plethora of Western cars.
There were locally, license-produced Fiats/Zastavas in Serbia (1300, 600, 128 for example), Citroens in Slovenia (Ami 8, 2CV, Dyane 6, GS and even DS, but in smaller amount), Renaults also in Slovenia (4,5,12 and 16's), Austins in Slovenia (Mini and 1300), Volkswagens in Bosnia (1200 aka "Beetles" and Golf I and II) and Opels in Serbia (Kadetts in 1980's). Some models still roam in former republics, but they've lost the battle against the new imported models.
So, western cars in the Soviet-themed republic, why not? I agree with suggestion. :)
