What are the profit of car factories?
I calculated that the cost of resources for the production of an excavator is 6,650 rubles, and the cost of selling it (not at the border, but simply from anywhere) is 7,714 rubles.
I do not understand what is the benefit of their production?

Using in total the same 500 workers in the steel industry, profits are many times greater.

Or, if I sell equipment at the border, will I be able to sell it at a higher price?
Maybe I'm missing something?

Almost 3.5 Million Rubles for this 4 little Rascals.

Not to shabby in my opinion.

Also cars gives a good profit.
Especially western vehicles to the east.

And here. 92000 Rubles for an excavator.

So yes. Taking vehicles to the border is something I could suggest.
I didn´t calculate the production cost though.
I know that there are few products not really worth to export.
But I bounce out everything I have. Sometimes even gravel.
Wanna see the chimney smoking.

"Selling anywhere" is like selling it used. When you sell at the border you get the price you would buy the vehicle for, assuming you sell Western vehicles at the Nato border, and Eastern vehicles at the Soviet border.

HOWEVER, if you sell Nato vehicles at Soviet border, that's when the money printing starts. You get a much higher value in Rubles. Get the prints for the VW Bug, and you won't have financial burdens.

Conversley, selling Eastern vehicles at NATO border is not worth it and you shouldn't do it under any circumstances. You get the most for your money if you sell raw materials, meat, fuel and steel at NATO borders.

Here you lose a lot of value.

Steel is needed literally everywhere, in any case, it will be useful to establish steel production. But a steel plant needs powerful logistics, it consumes a lot of coal and iron. While for the production of machines you need to deliver quite a few resources. Literally a couple of trucks are enough to start production near the customs. And selling western vehicles to soviet border is very profitable.

Cars and trucks are expensive late in the game so it is best to make your own.

Thanks to everyone, I already figured out what I didn’t take into account!) And I didn’t take into account the fact that if you sell at the border, then the profit will be already 30%, and this is for Soviet technology.
And selling Western equipment on the Soviet border is generally VERY profitable, there is a profit of more than 200%.
It looks like a scam, but if you take it for granted that I will spend money from car exports ONLY on buying licenses, then it looks honest.

A few questions about logistics:
My city with a car factory is not near the border.
1. How is the capacity of cars in a train car calculated? By weight or size?
I produce cars for export, but I'm not sure at what cost more will fit - cars in a wagon or a trolleybus?
2. Do I understand correctly that in order to export cars via railway, it is enough just to connect the car factory with the building "for storing equipment / containers"?
3. When I build a factory for the production of trains, will I need some additional building to export them?

Q1: It's both. On the upper screen shot U can see that on one trailer are 3 bulldozers while on another only one. Gotta do try and error.

Q2: I placed a vehicle storage with rail next to the factory line. I don't know if just a cargo station would have been enough. It was the first time for me building vehicles.

Q3: No need for additional buildings to store trains. I use a mod version. It has an internal storage.
On the bottom of the following screen shot U can see the layout of my train production.

Be aware if you use this mod.
These passenger train sets won't fit into the building.
You can build them but never see a chance to store them.
Learned that the hard way.

Don't get confused with all the other rails. You just need a connection from on depot to the construction line. The rest is some other stuff.

compare with the profitability of oil products...

Both weight and size. It will be better to produce a few cars in test save and see how they fit into the wagons.

Not sure, need test.

Yes, with direct factory connection (forklifts are not able to move vehicles). Or even regular cargo train station. Though vehicle/container storage will load faster than general purpose cargo station.

No, additional loading stations are not needed. Moreover, unlike cars, railway equipment can only be loaded directly at the factory - wagons cannot be moved through factory connections.

1. Of the vanilla vehicles, the short flatbed can carry 8 cars or a bus, the longer flatbed can carry 12 cars or 2 buses. The buses have higher value than the VW Käfer which I produce..
2. Yes, a container/vehicle storage zone connected to the factory is enough.
3. No. Connect the factory and your depot and border stations, and send a locomotive to the factory without any cars. The trains produced by your factory will be coupled after your locomotive, which can pull them to the border to sell, or to the depot for usage. Not that once you transport a new vehicle to any depot, you cannot sell them anymore at the border.
