After so long in Development...
The road building still sucks. I'm sorry but I can't even play this game because I become so frustrated with the road building system. It's so restrictive and annoying. You can't even build a road down a hill for christ sake.
Have you never gone down a hill in a car before Devs? What is the issue? Is it the game engine? You build a city building game in an engine that doesn't support proper road building? I see you have improved on the curves of the roads, but still roads don't connect properly or you can't make a road that goes even slightly down a small decline. There could be a mile of space to work with but you can't build and connect two roads together. It sucks.
You still have to build very small sections of road to get it to work. Otherwise you get the "Too Steep" Error or "Construction Blocked" It's seriously the worst road building system I've seen in a city building game.

Try building in shorter sections. Build this part first and then extend off the end of it.

Did I not mention that in my post? That is so dumb. Wtf is stopping it from building the entire section? Why does it work if you build little tiny sections instead of just laying the road and connecting the two points?
It's a bad system and it doesn't work correctly. You shouldn't have to make 50 small sections to connect two points that are right next to each other.

Have you looked at the topographic map to see how steep the terrain actually is? There is a point you have to rather snake or build switchbacks or bridge.

The small sections working are a bug/exploit of the system not a desired action.

@ryantheskinny is right, its likely the topography of the hills is too steep for roads. In real life anything over 30-40 degrees would be impossibly hard to drive up. Flatten the hills and build smoother slopes or curved switchback roads.

Have you ever driven down a hill in a car before? That hill is not too steep. If I need to build a bridge in that area to get those 2 points together how dumb is that? Isn't the building system supposed to do that for you? You hold the right mouse button, and it levels the terrain yet It says it's too steep to even do that..
I did connect the two points, yet I had to make about 10 small sections to connect them together. It's a poor system and poorly made.
Think about it? It has nothing to do with the height of the hill at all if I can just make little tiny sections of road and it works ya? Yet I can't just connect the two points together. It's simply poorly done.

No it's not. as stated in my post above. If you can connect the two points by making 10 little tiny road sections, that just shows how poor the system is. Rather than just connecting the two points you have to do it in a "rigged" manner to get it to work. That isn't a working system. It's a poorly made one.

There to your 30-40 degree hills.. At 4:45 what do you call that? Stop white knighting because the system is bad.

There are no 30% grades in that video. Some 30% grade roads exist but they are very rare and only for a short distance. This is what 30% grade actually looks like. Feels like going up a roller coaster incline.

Im really not sure what the big deal is.. I learned the limitations and worked within them.

Sometimes it can be challenging, but with a little thought and planing using the tools available to us I am able to achieve the desired pathway.

It's certainly not as forgiving as Cities Skyline that's for sure. On Cities you can make some serious angles and grades without issue.. and also unrealistic overall.

The road is going up, and so is the train.

Of course U can´t drag it up just like easypeasy.
In my opinion this game is for players who are willing to go the extra mile.
Don´t take me wrong. Suggestions are always welcome. And I don´t want to escalate.
The roads are on the trello. So let´s wait if there will be some improvements.

Literally the same at 15:30 in my example, I'm guessing you didn't bother to watch maybe only the first example.

Notice how all your examples are in hot climates. No way you would build anything this steep in a cold climate. If they did, it would be closed half of the year.

think ur playing on highmap map thats elevations are very rough/unsmoothed.

"jumping into the deep end of the pool on 1st day..."

most of the vids i saw early on and yt. are on mostly smooth flat maps.

its so it works on less capable gfx machines from less $ countries.

the roads tools are designed for flat maps - much better when realise the limitations of development.

you will encounter "clipping" issues too.

-worth learning all the little fun parts - as deep of game play potential outweighs any comparative builder with smooth roads.

good luck o7

You must have linked the wrong video then because there is nothing close to 30% grade at the 15:30 mark.

As ive said before the ability to build short sections that defeat the grade limitations is a bug.

You cant base your expectations on a game exploit. I can guarantee you that grade is much more severe than it looks or you have some unforseen bug.
