That´s an interesting fact. I didn´t know that.
Correctly, Slovenia was socialist republic of the Yugoslavia and was surrounded by the neutral, but part of the West Austria on the north and Warsaw Pact Hungary on the NE, and NATO member Italy on the NW. (SR) Slovenia's southern neighbour was, and still is (SR) Croatia, with which shares majority of political history.
So, this fictional game republic reminds me of Yugoslavia, and I even try to recreate its architecture and vehicle pool and even the economical philosophy (industry and tourism focus) as much as I can using the correct mods.

Second, I really play this game as this is some temperate, unnamed Yugo republic, combining the brutalist arhitecture and vehicle pool from East and West.
Third, I agree that this country IRL can be Poland, East Germany or Czechoslovakia...but if you look at the toponyms in vanilla map...they're mostly borrowed from Polish, Ukrainian, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian or Romanian language...if you look at the road waypoint, it has Ukrainian cyrillic letters.
So I think that finding the real counterpart for the Republic leads nowhere...it's actually generic Central European country with various influences, but mostly Czech and Slovak.
If you have imagination and creativity, you can recreate any Cold War European Socialist country, as I do with SFRY, because my country was part of it during that period.
Best wishes to all you buddies,

The interactions you have with outside powers are purely economic, and most of the gameplay is building and managing supply chains and providing for worker needs. To that end, the only events relate to price fluctuations and public health issues.
Now don’t think I don’t recommend it, I do love this game. If you like games like Transport Fever, or Cities Skylines, or even Factorio to a lesser extent, this game offers a similar experience with greater depth. It is one of the best management games out there, and it nails the ComBloc aesthetic in a way that represents everyday life. Just don’t expect a Tropico style game.
That said. Does it matter? And I know you can mod your own maps, for all that real world needs if you have. I personally think it is more fun as it is tho.
