Electrical network difficulties
Does anyone have a detailed guide to building a properly functioning electrical network? I only place the stations by intuition, and that’s not always enough.

I write "electric engineering". It's not finished but at least gives you some insight. I have to rewrite it :P

The simplest rule: HV to MV to substations. Sum power consumption and conenct it with proper cables. Eg.

15MW HV can handle 7,5x2MW medium. Power plants produces power only on demand.

For now, I’m building a power plant next to every city. :)

Sure I can help and it's probably a cheap way to start anyways, until you build your own power. Even when playing on Hardest of modes (which is just a slower start) with capital.
Anyways: I will just number them in order

1.) Under Infrastructure Tab, in the 2nd row are the two types of electric modification you will be using.
2.) So I suppose your building off the Soviet Union side, because that's your main rubles and your given the most to start with.

Lets begin shale we?

3. Under the 2nd row -Tab that says Medium Voltage, from here we just want to place the "Power Switch" Note; The power switch has one high power connection. That the one that you will be connecting from hub "the soviet union" I normally place that somewhere close to my new city or township that I start with, next to a road. "So the High Power line is facing out of town." Now either hit that back button or hit the Construction tab for power-lines and roads, From here you're gonna want to hit the high voltage wire tab. Note: each high voltage wire has it's own MW use, so will just grab the cheap 4 MW wire to connect from hub to the "Power Switch." Now that I think of it, the power switch is in both tabs of high voltage & low voltage wire.

4. Now before you go off adding substation to low voltage wire. I use "power transformer." I generally like to use more connection to my town, because there always other buildings out of reach from substation. Also you get another three substation off that transformer. Just like in real life.

5 Now just add substation using the low voltage wire and it will connect to all the buildings around it, "within it's perimeters. "

I'm not done yet, hang in there ! :steammocking:

Finally you go back to where you connect the high voltage wire: The Soviet Union Electric Hub (click that.) Hit the + to purchase your power, one time. That should be enough power to run your starting city or township, with minimum rubles.

You will be trading and be able to make more profits, then trying to build your own power-supply, with less headaches

I have other tips on Facebook; Soviet Republican #33

Could you be a little more specific about what your problem is? I'd love to help, but right now I'm not sure where to start.

It's basically a numbers and math minigame.
Each building has a mw power demand.
Each power line has a mw power supply limit.
You have to use enough of the proper wires to make the supply higher than the demand at each substation (and add more if necessary).

If you click on a substation it will tell you the total demand of all connected buildings as well as the demand that substation will supply if buildings are connected to multiple substations.

Your task is to get that 2nd number to be lower than what the power lines connecting the substation to the power plant can supply. If you're using a 1.2Mw line to connect a substation directly to a power plant, than it can only supply 1.2Mw of power, not enough if the buildings connecting to the substation need 1.8Mw.

On top of this, if you add in switches and transformers, you also have to consider the capacity of all the lines further up as you get closer to the power plant. If you have 4 substations each with a 2Mw demand for a total demand of 8Mw and connect all 4 to a transformer with 2.35Mw low voltage lines but only use a 6mw high voltage line to connect the transformer to a power plant than those 4 substations combined will only have a max output of 6mw, not the 8mw the substations require to satisfy the demand.

Night time is the easiest way to find low power spots, you'll see building and street lights flickering.

It's better to place the high voltage wires: 2.35mw poles, so you don't have to go back and bulldoze and replace them later. Especially at mining sites or anything that needs more. Learn to use the transformers, you will be ale to use two substation. So you will get 12 substation off the power switch, instead of 6

I can't be bothered to play with nighttime mode.
