Workers not taking jobs.
Is this a common problem or am I missing something? I think I've got all the bases covered. I'm doing the following:
- Residences are sending workers to bus stations.
- Bus stations are only piking up workers and bringing them to work locations or other bus stops with distributed work assignments.
- I've got plenty of buses running.

These are things I'm seeing:
- Busses are not filling up.
- Jobs are not getting all filled.
- There are hundreds of unemployed workers.

What gives? I can get more people in jobs by making more residences and getting more workers, but it also increases the amount of unemployed. When I click on individual citizens, they are complaining that they are unemployed, yet they live in a residence sending people to a job where there are jobs available. Overall happiness is high, but it's frustrating trying to get all the jobs filled.

Any ideas?

Are your workers educated? I believe every workspace in the game requires at least a high school education, and doctors, teachers, and professors require a university education. If you don't educate your workers they'll still go to a bus stop and be counted as a worker once they turn 21, but without an education they'll be incapable of working anywhere.

The good news is, anybody can be educated regardless of age. If you build a high school (and potentially import some experts to work as teachers), your uneducated workers will go to school and obtain a basic education.

I had this problem too. The problem was, that I had 2/3 of citizens in baby carrige and only 3 kindergartens. So, I built 6 or 7 more and the amount of unemployed went down by 1000, Before I had 1300 unemployed.

You need a lot of residents to have a consistently happy and productive population without escapes. Be prepared to have 1000 workers and only 150 will actually work on your projects or industries at any given time. The rest are support staff, travelling or having free time.

They will also have a lot of children. 1000 workers will soon mean 2500 people in total, who all want to be fed and clothed and entertained. You need multiple kindergartens and schools, which all need to be staffed.

Do keep your population happy all the time. Paying already educated people to immigrate is very expensive.

Thank you, both of these points make a lot of sense. I didn't think of these angles. I only have one school and one kindergarten. I was assuming that most factory / mining jobs required uneducated labour. This also matches what I observed. Early on my unemployment worked it's way down to zero, but then as I expanded it started growing. Early on my one school must have educated more and more workers, but as I expanded the one school could not keep up with the growth. Looks like one more restart. I think I've got enough of it figured out now that I can build me mega republic :)

This is a really well done game. I normally don't like micromanaging games but this one does it well.

I was doing fine keeping the population happy, All their needs are met, I was just getting frustrated filling all the jobs. Getting diminishing returns on adding residences was frustrating. Education seems to be the key. Increasing the percentage of qualified workers. I was noticing getting boosts of workers when I payed for expert immigrants, but that was too expensive. Funny I didn't put it together myself. Talking about it now it makes total sense.

In my case, it was full capacity of BUS-stop filled with students. No room for workers, so they stay home.

So I think there are two possibilities. 1) They don't have education 2) And it took me 40 hours to realize that people not only are uneducated idiots ... :-D they still don't know that they go to work by bus / train. 400 unemployed and factories half empty :-D what I insulted. Just tell each barracks if the traffic is far away to go to the bus stop / railway station as well as preferring workplace, immediately all factories are full and the buses can't load. The joy of discovering a new .....
