Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic

How big is the map?
I'm thinking about using some real world data to generate heightmaps for the map creator but I have no Idea of the scale of the map, did anyone already made the pixel measurements to know the map area in meters?

Assuming buildings are to real scale the map looks like it's around the region of 25km*25km

The map is 20x20 with a 16x16 km playable area within the borders
Each square on the minimap is 2.5km.

Thanks man

I think it is 15x15 km if the whole map is 20x20 km which has been speculated (the outer squares are beyond the borders). Still, at 225 sq km it is absolutely huge compared to other games of this genre. It is, in fact, 6.25 times bigger than a Cities Skylines map. Hence, the game also plays like a country builder rather than a city builder. Some cities/areas can be 12, 15 or even 20 km from each other, so they will need distinct services, power supplies, etc and will function completely independent.

The map is a total 20km across, it has a 2km border all the way around that you can build in. Leaving you a 16x16km playable area within the border. Thats the official map stats.

Aham, I see. So 256 sq km. Huge.

I would still like to see even bigger maps, as that would allow me to build even more sparsely. Actually, how difficult would it be to at least enable the random map generator to generate maps of specific sizes, as a beta test feature?

It's not big enough! :steamhappy:

Ive asked and so have some other testers to test a larger map, but peter wont budge.

A bigger map would be amazing as in the current size you are managing more of a soviet county than a soviet republic

I wonder how many people have actually filled up the map yet?

The map (256 sq.km) is bigger than the actual country of liechtenstein (160 sq.km) so it could be a soviet republic.

big or small is relative. For example, the vanilla map with population, until all 7 cities and 13 villages have been woken up and all economic complexes built, then you can say the map is small, in my opinion nobody has reported anything like that.
TheGriLL Dec 24, 2020 @ 1:36pm
The point isn't that I want a bigger map to fill, but rather that I'd like to have realistic distances between production centres and towns, so with a larger map I'd be keeping a decent chunk of it empty.
ryantheskinny Dec 24, 2020 @ 2:02pm
Oh id love one 40x40 i think that would be about the largest managable size.
TheGriLL Dec 24, 2020 @ 3:02pm
I'd be very happy even with a map twice the size (!), though I don't see the harm in letting people build arbitrarily large maps. Do you reckon there's any chance we might see even the 40x40 variant at some point? Also off-topic, but any word on traffic lights and intersection management?
