Game will not start - Missing files?
A couple of weeks back I posted a thread about my game constantly crashing, I still haven't got to the bottom of that problem, but now I have an even bigger problem.
My game will not start at all now and I just get a message saying ' XAudio2_8.dll is missing, reinstall'..... I've tried validating the game files in Steam but it's made no difference.
Has anyone had this or a similar problem? I really don't like the idea of having to uninstall/re-install because I'd obviously lose all my saves and then have to go and download my 5 million mods all over again....grrrrrrr!

Reinstalling the game shouldn't erase your subs, and you can back up your saves before reinstalling

OK thanks Ryan, do I have to uninstall everything first or can I get it to reinstall over the top of the current game?

You could always right click on the game in your library and go to properties then verify your game files.

Yeah, you can always select the option to verify the integrity of the game files. Steam should automatically install any missing files when you select this option.

As I said in the opening thread " I've tried validating the game files in Steam but it's made no difference ".

Ryan is right though. Steam should normally store your saves and subs if i'm not mistaken. This applies for most games that you have. Reinstall and you should have the same stuff waiting for you.

I think that may be my only option now Jon, I've tried everything else I can think of and the game still will not start.

Before you start to reinstall the game you can manualy make the backup of important folders.

Your played save files are stored in:
x:\Steam\steamapps\common\SovietRepublic\media_soviet\save\

Your mods you are working on but not publishet yet are in:
x:\Steam\steamapps\common\SovietRepublic\media_soviet\workshop_wip\

All your subscribed for W&R:SR mods are in:
x:\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\784150\

If make a backup of these folders, you can even manualy delete the wwhole game from by deleting folder:
x:\Steam\steamapps\common\SovietRepublic\

and after the game fresh reinstall bring back folders "save" and "workshop_wip".

If the reinstallation doesn't help with your problem let us know here.
I have some idea what could cause the problem and how to fix it.

** Update **
OK, I've done the reinstall and added back in my old save games. So far everything seems to be working as normal again, I can't comment on the game crashing that I was getting at the time this problem first occurred yet because due to work I've not been able to let it run for long enough.

Thanks for all the input, suggestions and ideas guys.
