resources on random generated map
I started a new map on the test branch about a week ago. I noticed that my resources are a bit scarce and scattered.

I did't try and regenerate another map to see if the resources generation is different each time, but might be nice to have an option for resources like we have for hills and trees.

(I know I can go into cheat mode and modify the resources, but would like to try and play as map was generated)

Thanks
Stew

The maps also feel kind of… uncanny. I wish there was a "import height map" feature. Just choose a region and bam. Maybe someday.

You can import height maps, it is what we do when we make maps. But there are still (very many times) many hours so that it looks real, and is balanced to resource type and location- relative to topography, other resources and customs points, possible starter towns as an example. Mine for example are built with a playstyle / end user in mind. It is a labour of love, or I at least wouldn't do it. xD

Resources seem to be rather rich and frequent (as of time of writing), butt they are placed in small rich spots scattered around the map.
What bothers me is resource placement, iron and coal are half of the time "next to hills" rather than in hills, and that is just weird. I guess oil can be anywhere, I don't know about uranium.

And for map being uncanny, it seems that it makes strict distinction what is "hill", "lake" or "plain" and does not interpolate between this much which is very visible on the map. Also it would be nice if had more control over granularity (something like the "diamond" value in level editor)
Or in best case various levels of granularity, like make part of map more "hilly" and other more "mixed" etc.

Exactly right. Maybe I can talk my brother into make an AI map creator since he studies machine learning haha

I doubt it but that would be a fun project

Yea I was a little disappointed when I tried it out because I really like the default (eastern european) map that we have and the detail it has and I thought it would make a map like that but instead it made that kind of weird map. Shame

The developers are still working on this feature. Patience is the best course of action.

It is early release so I think this is more of a bonus than anything else

You can easily edit the resources using the map editor controls. To use them in game press C, H & E to activate cheat mode, then press Left Ctrl + E + D to access the map editor tools. You can now paint on and remove the resources to where you want them. When done you press Ctrl E D to exit the tools and CHE again to exit cheat mode
