rail construction speed
I recently noticed, that the rail construction is much faster when you build tracks without electricity and add them later when the track is done.

The reason is that the builder train doesnt have to change material to continue the next step of construction because there is only one step. When one section is done the construction of the next section starts instantly.
So the train can use its maximum capacity and you save a lot of trips to the construction depot.

Thanks for the tip.

Improving speed at wich bridges but specially tunnels are built though, would be great. You can grow old waiting for them to finish.

There is no speed in building track then electrical
And it doubles your costs

Unfortunately, there is an inaccurate rumor that circulated months ago

Just build up a few stretches of track and compare the costs in workers and resources for each method

I just tested it.
The material and workdays are identical.

Surprisingly building with money is about 50% more expensive if you do it seperatly.
But my suggestion in my first post was about building it by yourself, not paying for it.

Only thing that might help:
Use terraforming to create the bridge heads so that you only have to build one bridge segment without bridge ramps.

Yes they are identical

Build concrete
Spend 10 tons of steel

then upgrade it to electrical
it will cost you the 10 tons of steel
PLUS the electrical components

For a grand total of

And what are the costs if you just build electrical first?
JimBarracus Apr 16, 2020 @ 7:23am
Once again: it is not about the cost.

Its about building time, which is shorter when you build the concrete track first and add the cables after the track is done.

I can guarantee that doing it separately reduces time inmensely. Electrification is extremely fast when the track is already built.

My deep dive was so long ago I'm struggling to remember some of the details...but IIRC there are some track-builders that are better suited to electrification (I want to say it was yellow?) and others that are better-suited to track-laying. That could also be contributing.

I think most track builders have a max speed of 50kmh, the other ones can be ignored
other important stat is the max weight. I think the big yellow one with the crane can carry 35t material.
and of course work speed.

The number of workers also contribute to the speed of track laying. The big crane needs 40 workers.
