Can factories still work without forklifts?
It would be really nice if they did... Can they?

I didn't understand your question, forklifts are just an accessory, not a requirement for factories to function. For them to work you only need workers, energy and materials that the factory will need to synthesize or produce your final product.

But can factory connections transport materials without being attached to a forklift garage?

Yes

In most cases if it is a single direct link (no crossings etc in between) they work fine.
You can have sth like silo>warehouse>factory in a chain as well.

Yes ofc. and they do better than forklifts.

I found this to be correct, Unless you use a lot of trucks the original method is faster.

Caution: silo >>> warehouse >>> factory = does not work.
Warehouse is passive building.
correct: silo >>> factory >>> warehouse

yes, sure. Use trucks or trains Forklifts are bads because absolutly not flexibles and create isolated zones. I only use them in small quantites and with high necessity.

I've got a farm feeding a warehouse feeding a food factory and its working (with food factory backfeeding food to the warehouse)

Farm >>> Warehouse >><< Food Factory

This is the right one
Farm, is active building, pushes its products into the warehouse, and the factory also actively sucks from the warehouse.
The silo and the warehouse are passive buildings.
so
Farm >>> silo >>> factory
or
Farm >>> warehouse >>> factory
are right.
but
Farm >>> Silo >>> Warehouse >>> Factory is wrong because silo and warehouse are passive buildings

I really try always to use the original lines, the forklifts are slower and you need to provide fuel etc, not an option for me unless there is no other way.
