Car assembly plant
Hey everybody, I haven't played much for about a year, but I have a new republic up and running and I want to make a profitable car assembly plant. Im curious if anyone has managed this and if y'all have any tips.

Im thinking about having an open storage and a warehouse attached via factory connections and a few dedicated fabric factories - haven't decided if these should be direct connected or if thats too ambitious. I will have steel and mech components delivered via rail, chemicals and plastic delivered via rail, and workers will come from a nearby town via rail nrail as well.

Im interested in others thoughts or setups you have used

Cars are really different from most other industries. Their added value is pretty huge. If you export soviet vehicles to a soviet border you'll get an ok amount (I think its about 2x the cost of inputs). If you export western vehicles to a soviet border you get nearly 4x the inputs (its honestly unfair how good this is).

Therefore... you can pretty much run it with only imports and make tons of profit.

Now, if you are going it source it yourself, focus on Steel and Mech Parts. That's about 95% of what goes in the cars. You will use only a marginal amount of Plastics, Electro Comps and especially Fabrics. The industry uses next to no fabrics. The odd truck can supply those 3. The other two will need a connection or a frequentish truck, but overall even at full capacity a vehicle factory doesn't eat that much in terms of resources.

I recently decided to use my car factory, the mod, a small one, just to see the size of the profits, only 30 employees and 10 engineers, it is absurd to profit that you export Western vehicles to the Soviet Union, almost double the profit, this is because I only tried it with personal cars, so imagine large vehicles? extremely profitable.
I connected it directly to a train loading station and it works very well, my resources to maintain the factory I use transport by truck, connected directly to a loading station and works well.
Certainly it does not consume much, but it depends on the vehicle it will produce and also on its functionality, if it is a total focus on exports, it will require a lot of manpower to keep it 100% because it also depends on other resources and the like.
As profitable as it may be, I still prefer to export other resources and use vehicles for internal consumption.

Ah this is good to know. I Looked last night and it says that the plant has a storage capacity of 175(?) Tons of fabric. I had originally thought this was daily consumption so I probably only need a cargo station connected and no extra storage. Can i go:

vehicle assembly plant < - > cargo station < - > vehicle storage

Will the finished autos pass through the cargo station to the vehicle storage?

Glad to hear that even importing I can make this sucker profitable, even though I do plan on supplying everything myself

Car Factory have bult-in quite big warehouse, so you don't need to prepare external one. All I did in this matter was to set "mechanical parts" to 40% of occupation, and it was ok. I connected road terminal to factory, to provide fabrics, plastic, electronic and ele. components by single trucks, mechanical parts are delivered directly to factory by built-in car slots. I also have open storage connected to factory, because I wanted to supply steel by trains, if you want to deliver steel by trucks, you don't have to build it - factory itself have big storage. Last part of my automotive indsutry is export - train cargo depot to load cars and send them directly to the border.

Few days ago I've published screen of my city with automotive industry, I hope that this will help you:

Yeah pretty much the only external storage you'll need is the ones that double as train drop offs.

I usually make an auto storage though, even though the space isn't needed. Its to either get the rail yard, or have a space for my trucks to cue and not block incoming resources.

Volzhsky Avtomobilny Zavod? More like Valoka Avtomobilny Zavod.

Thats amazing! It did occur to me that I should make a train assembly plant in the same complex since it should have all the same inputs

Is there way to transport harvesters or do I need to wait for bigger traincars?

I started my empire with autos when they first came out. Agree that cars and trains seem to be highest value add. I think selling VW Bugs to the East is your best early game money maker as they are quicker to make than the Russian models and have a higher resale value. Late model heavy industry equipment can sell for obscene amounts of money.

Generally better to pickup the vehicles by train to drop off across the empire and terminate at the border so you keep your vehicle depots stocked and export the rest. You can fill the rest of the materials in the factory with trucks. No additional warehouses are needed in most cases beyond perhaps an additional truck bay for materials not being trained in.

Yes, there are vehicles that take them

Anyway to transport the cars by road?

Yes, use open trucks

Thanks

Whew ok, I built an auto and train assembly complex and I've got all the raw materials being delivered, its quite the setup. I still dont have actual workers, but I think you guys were right, trains are a little overkill for the fabric, plastic, and electronics. I have some bad junctions I have fix first though, 10 trains were too many for my network

How do you move the produced cars to the terminal or the storage facility, so the train can pick them up? Thanks!

You can use a direct factory connection
