How do you design your mining complexes?
I have to say, figuring out the lay out of my mines is quite cumbersome when I have to take into consideration not only where should my conveyors and their elevators go, but also transportation for the workers. Each mine takes up to 220 maximum, which means that buses are out of the question to staff them, so one has to use passenger trains driven directly from their towns. Ec pc right? Well, when you consider the short radius of the train (plus bus) stations, plus how spread out the mines are, one begins to run into issues when having to deal with where to place the stations in themselves.

Many times I've had to fiddle around with my conveyors and the train station to make sure that the latter could reach every single mine shaft, which made it a pain since my lay outs often have the processing facilities nearby to process the minerals and have them ready for transport by rail. Because of this, I've had to squeeze the station in between my conveyors to tap all of the mines, which can be hell since I have to delete the station's plans, unpause, watch it disappear in a fraction of a second, pause, and do it again.

So now I'm asking you, how in the hell do I work smarter and not harder? How do you guys design your mining complexes?

You can use buses though. Many of them have over 100 capacity and you do not have to even use a bus station. You can send workers from the bus station in a city to the mine directly. I do that with my iron mine which is pretty far from my nearest town.

Only trains will serving my industrys. Buses will only handle traffic inside cities.

P.S.
It took me about 4-5 hours real life to design this place. Including leveling of places for buildings and profiling of the area for roads and railway lines.

I did cleanup on my YT channel and accidentally deleted the videos I didn't want to delete. Among other things, those about this game.
Unfortunately, I don't have backups on my computer.
When I realized it, I also removed the screen shots from the game becouse of anger.
I am a hot-tempered man ...

I am preparing a series of guide films in Polish. It seems to me, however, that it can be helpful even for those who do not know Polish. The pictures itself will be enough, I think.

I feel you. I was like "oh no!"
Anyways I'm an English speaker so English text would be nice, if possible. But if not I appreciate your videos showing the features and possibilities non the less.

I usually try to plan the whole mining facility ahead with everything in place, i.e. roads rails storages and even some house I designed a new coal mining facility but it is work in progress because after 18 months I will need to connect my railway an finish all the roads there. It takes a while to build it brick by brick. And I like to use as much space as possible.

I have records the process streaming on twitch so you can find it there.

Ha ha ha forged73, it is a good thing you didn't smash your keyboard also in anger :steammocking:

I think you should wait a bit before making your videos especially if they are going to explain trains until we get an update that is a bit more "final" on how trains will work in the game.

I for one would love to watch a video on the planning procedure. I always forget something in my plans and end up with conveyor belt spaghetti at the end LOL

At least as the game my video s are also work in progress. I learn as I play and I think it is the most interesting part solving puzzles just by creating them.

I am sad because I wanted to see forged73's pictures/videos... but thanks.. to the rest of you also... very good information here!

I build them in layers as per immage.

And always a supporting village nearby,

In this case, some workers go straight to the coal processing plant while other are delivered to the mines by train.

All coal is delivered to on central deposit that fed the processing plant.

2 deposits receive coal and feed into the train loading area that moves it to the central distribution area.

I found screenshots deleted from "Steam" in my comuter. So I'm throwing in my setup of the coal mine industry again:

@Anlauf, I like your setup. Go big or go home :)

You are actually delivering workers by buses directly to those 4 mines? Can the buses handle that volume of workers?

tip regarding mining in mountains and workers.

Its quite easy to build a mine in the mountains, but hard to make a road up there, and even if you succeed then you properbly have allot of problems building your bus station near the mine.
A solution is to build the bus station within 300m of the mine and then make your workers walk up the mountain.. The walking road can go up very steep hills without problems and is very easy to build and your people wont complain. ;-)

Or you can set the mine as destination for the bus. You do not need bus station to get workers into mine

I always try to build the mine in the flattest richest spot near the edge of a hill. Things that don't need staff like storage areas go behind the mine, ore processing goes near the mine. I then try to jam a town with enough workers to support the mine and processing buildings all within walking distance. Generally my mine-towns are net exporters of workers rather than consumers. This way you never worry about staff at the mines or fussing with buses.
