Trams turn backwards and cause traffic
I have a gigantic tramway network and it had semaphores which caused a really bad traffic both on tram tracks and on the roads. Then i decided to remove the semaphores and it seemed to fix my problem. After time i noticed that some trams are running on the wrong side of tracks, so i observed the trams. Then, i figured out that if a tram in front stops, the tram in the back will flip backward. I would have wanted the trams at the back to simply stop, not flip around.

Also, please add tram tracks

i suggest to make trams work in a way more suitable for their nature

My hint: start a game without limits in money and build a huge network for trains and stuff and figure out how semaphores work and how to make it most efficiently, then use the knowledge to fix your system.

Too many semaphores = can cause trouble. It can be useful to use less in crossings, and use more on long ways to have more forced segments so more trains can go the same direction at the same time.

As a general rule: have as less single lines as possible, always use a dedicated rail line for one direction and one for the opposite.

It's a never ending puzzle game, but it's a fun one.
The thing is that i have a very confusing road system which crossed the tram tracks a lot of times and i have a lot of lines because different tram lines lead to different parts of the city. With semaphores it causes a horrific traffic problem, so i removed them. While observing the trams i figured out that if a tram in front stops the tram at the back will flip to the opposite direction. That is why i want the trams to act like in real life (without needing the semaphores)
But you will need semaphores, because of, they are also used in real life to 'sort' the traffic. And they are even more needed ingame since your trams do not have 'common human sense', they need a logic to follow and need to have a path leading them around to everywhere.

No matter how complex your system is, it can be 'semaphored' and work.
You are right i do can put semaphores on my tram system. But then some of the trams block the car traffic in one or another way. That is why my suggestion is to make the trams more independent from semaphores. I dont mean to completely make them independent. Also i would have suggested the rail crossings to be more like a tram crossing.

Oh and here is a screenshot of what i mean by "confusing tram system":

What type of semaphores did you set and where? It's kinda important to use some chain semamphores and normal ones depending on track layout.

Keep in mind that everything between two semaphores counts as 'block', and even a line that is never used can be blocked by a train. Play around by placing and removing semaphores until the ones blocking don't block anymore, until you get the hang of it how the system works.
I suggest you to remove some of your critical road rail crossings and move them into place where they do not block the traffic. As you have designed that, it will not begin to work anytime soon. Signals are not the solution there. That road is probably the worst place it can be. And trafic jam is not your only problem there. You can get firefighter vehicles stuck in the traffic jam and get your buildings burned down.

You need to consider where trains/trams are stopping and never place a road crossing the raiload there! I learned that on my own mistakes. Just place that crossing elsewhere even if it is a bit detour or solve it with a bridge over if possible, but that is not your case now.

When you are planning your rails and roads you need to consider such critical areas.

Now just watch your road rail crossings and remove all where there is most of time red signal for vehicles and move them elsewhere. It is easier to move roads than rails.

I suggest you to remove that road near thr depo crossing those rails an make new one between the railroad building office and the bridge and connect it to the road leading to that storage at the river bank. You can also connect it to the electronics factories crossing that single rail. It is a little detour but that should solve most of your problems near this intersection and then try to revise your signalling and other crossings nearby.
