Conveyor construction
I'll leave the bit below for posterity, bottom line I had been missing the "Start Construction from Planned Infrastructure" box in the bottom left of the conveyor layout (road and rail layout too for that matter) and had found a rather convoluted work around.

------------------------------------------
Right now I have to say my single biggest frustration with manual construction is conveyors.

I'm usually playing hard mode in the center of the map where any mistake early on can mean failure.

Blueprinting a large construction area with conveyors is one of the biggest risks. A normal process goes:

1) Layout lots of conveyors while carefully masking out the buy with rubles or dollars so they're just grayed out for later.
2) Later on lay new conveyor, forget to uncheck 'pay with xxx' box, watch the entire suite of conveyors magically begin building and wipe out $200K in money, restore from autosave

When I do want to manually build a conveyor the construction building search function doesn't work, it never adds completely grayed out conveyors. So the process goes
1) Pause game, select 'radio button for pay with xxx', see all conveyors turn to dots, search all conveyors and stop construction.
2) Save game and un-pause
3) Rapidly slap pause game because you've clearly missed some conveyors and money is rapidly dwindling. Locate overlooked conveyors and turn construction *back* off
4) Optionally restore from save or just continue if monetary hit wasn't too bad.

I love W&R, I've played most every builder in this is easily the best even this early and I can live with the conveyors as they are ... but I'd sure love to see them fixed so they don't switch to auto build just because you built a new one some where and paid for it.

When you connect a conveyor it displays White? Correct? When they are White (ie Planned), look at the bottom of the Conveyor menu. There's a button next to the Red X to Cancel Plans. Click it. The other two next to that is to pay with Rubles or Dollars. When you click to set them for construction they will turn into dots, and you won't accidentally auto build them with money.

I missed that button back when I started playing. Originally had to do with trying to figure out how to have track assigned to the Rail Construction Office, since I didn't actually set my track to be available for construction and they remained in their planned state.

Just plan them and then "assign for construction", and check all your offices to not build conveyors. Problem solved.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Ok, for you:

First step is totally optional, but helps a bit:

• 1st - Check your construction offices, and uncheck 'conveyor/pipelines'.

• 2nd - Plan your conveyor belts as you want them, keep the game paused for more convenience.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1728558675

• 3rd - Hit the 'assign construction' button LEFT of the "red X". Now your conveyors are 'marked for construction', and cannot be autobought anymore by the autobuy function in the menu itself, only on the construction itself. And, they become dots.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1728558779

• 4th - Click 'suspend construction' to keep them as they are without anything happening, in case your construction offices find them and want to do something.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1728558832

• 4th - Click on 'continue construction' just in case you're happy with them all and want to actually have them built.

So you avoid the issue with having a large planned layout and you only want one to be built but it builds them all. You can also easily filter them to them all again with the building list. I know, they are so very nice visible with the huge white lines instead of being dots only.

Hope that helps.

Thanks SBGaming, I never noticed that box. I've been playing a ton (300 hrs) and once I found a path that worked, namely starting construction via paying and then going around disabling them, I just kept at it. I feel a bit foolish that I just assumed this was a design flaw and not stupidity on my part.

Im playing hard settings to, and i have problems with automaticaly buying a people to flats (GET CITIZENS). My settings of buy people resets after restart game and i will everytime dont remember to disable it. Could be this settings of part a save game? Same situation with buying thing per rubles (AUTO BUILD FROM RUBLES), after every restart game i need again setup this.
