Make trains use both lanes of a station
What kind of signal setup is necessary to make a train use lane 2 of a train station when lane 1 is already in use? There is a double track heading towards the station (one towards and one away from it) and an X-crossing to enable lane switching. when a train approaches the X there is a chain signal. when I place no signals behind the X tranin 2 waits until train 1 is done to use the same lane in station. when i place normal double direction signals behind the X on both tracks train 2 is heading towards the station lane where train 1 is already and they meet at the signal. How do I bring train 2 to station lane 2?

If it's a reversing station, you need to have 2-way chains on both tracks on the side closest to the station, a one-way chain on the "inbound" side, and a one-way regular signal on the "outbound" side. If it's a through station, you need the above on both sides.

Trains will generally try to take the shortest route unless there's a Chain to say "The shortest route is occupied, but this other route is open".

Also make sure that your X crossing is far enough away from the station to allow a train enough room to fully pass the signals you have set up closest to the station as described by TheAmishStig. Forged73 has a good video on this

something like at 1:59, without the other fork, I can't give you a screenshot since I am at work

To use both lanes it's easiest to split them shortly before, so the next signal after the chain signal is the station signal already.

Merging them again after the station and leading them back is also a nice way.

My approach at my grain loading, not often, but sometimes both trains arrive at the same time, the one for food and the one for chemicals, and since just in time is crucial.

it has 2 rail, one incoming and one outgoing, and already an X intersection, so it will be something like the "standard" and simple

station rail 1 =======<<>>===========>============= X station rail 2 =======<<>>===========<<============

This is what I do and it works well for four trains (two from each direction). If you have regular one-way signals in the appropriate direction on both tracks you can run more trains. I have been able to run freight trains through stations using this set-up when I have to, but I find it more convenient to separate my freight system from my passenger system.

I have been running some tests with this standard configuration and it works fine when the stations are at the end of the line with trains only entering one side but if you have a pass through station with trains approaching from both sides you will eventually get a block. I think I have found a set up which avoids this and after running some further tests later today I will post some screenshots

Thanks. Do you have a screenshot. I have been playing around with your X crossing set up with signals within the junction that you show in your video and tweaking it to work in pass through stations.

Thanks. Nice layout. Without the X crossing you are not able to have two trains in the station at the same time unless they enter from opposite sides (unless I missed this in your video)

Hi - Not sure if the link below has worked but I am showing the left side of the station with signals in place. This allows trains to enter both platforms from either side of the station (with a mirror set up on the right hand side) and either pass through or turn around and go back. Running this with 10 trains (where they drive on the left). Although this does create some delays at the station entrance, it does not create any permanent blockages

make double ring make equal number of trains in each ring. end of solution.
