"The first five-year plan (Russian: I пятилетний план, первая пятилетка) of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was a list of economic goals, created by Communist Party General Secretary Joseph Stalin, based on his policy of Socialism in One Country. The plan was implemented in 1928 and took effect until 1932"

"The plan, overall, was to transition the Soviet Union from a weak, poorly controlled, agriculture state, into an industrial powerhouse. While the vision was grand, its planning was ineffective and unrealistic given the short amount of time given to meet the desired goals"


"To meet the needs of a possible war, the Soviet leaders set unrealistic quotas for production. To meet those unrealistic needs, the facilities had to be constructed quickly to facilitate material production before goods could be produced. During this period 1928-1932, massive industrial centers emerged in areas that were highly isolated before. These factories were not only for war production, but to produce tractors to meet the needs of mechanized agriculture. The Stalingrad Tractor Plant was built with the help of western allies and was meant to play a major factor in the rapid industrialization of Russia. These isolated areas included Magnitogorsk, Dnieper, and Nizhny Novgorod.[18] Magnitogorsk, the largest of the rapid industrialized areas of Russia, was founded in 1743, but became more prevalent in the early 1930's by Stalin. His plan was to make it a one-industry town. The city would become the largest steel producer in Russia and was meant to rival production that was being seen in the U.S. at the same time. During this era of Soviet history, heavy industry was supposed to experience a 350% increase in output.[17] The Soviet Union's achievements were tremendous during the first five year plan, which yielded a fifty-percent increase in industrial output[19] To achieve this massive economic growth, the Soviet Union had to reroute essential resources to meet the needs of heavy industry. 80% of the total investment of the first five-year plan, was focused heavily on the industrial sector."

I have been trying a 5 year plan challenge while playing this game to meet the vision of comrade Stalin as mentioned above,

Challenge is to become self sufficient and sustainable in steel production under 5 year without bankruptcy .

Conditions are ;

game difficulty hard,

Not allowed to import coal or iron or any ores
Not allowed to build under % 50 quality mines
Not allowed to using existing population(must on blank map).
Must meet 100 ton per month steel production.

so far i have made several tries. Tried different approach and failed a lot. But i had success at my latest tests and met the quota apritl 1964 at my latest play .

based on this experience i will try to improve this 5 year play and then i will try a second 5 year plan and third 5 year plan challenge.

latest goal after all 5 year plans will be becoming fully self sufficient .



i would like to hear your comments opinions and the challenges you did so far.

I've been trying to work to 5 year plans on my current play. Nothing as crazy as that though. Though the first which was to become profitable with making cars in the first 5 years was pretty intense. I did have to heavily import steel though. I'm only just closing in on creating import-independent steel now in 1978. Just gotta get the new coal mines finished.

interesting :> as the real 5 year plan my 2. 5 year plan is train system 3. 5 year is cars too !

what was the most difficult part ? what kind of interesting things you did to manage that ?

Would you need to export food production and starve the population to achieve industrial growth as per the real 5 year plan?

:D since another condition is to start without population it is not possible to strave them becouse they will escape and reduce productivity. so far i had 0 escapes. People were fully fed food meat electronics clothings plus spot facilities cinema health care and basic education. teachers and doctors were imported time to time and population was let to grow steadily.

with some tweaks Achived goals at Aug1963 . coveyor engines are fare more profitable than carrying with trucks.

yes but now i will start building railroads, because roads dont costs anything (when you have oil and gravel) and railroad are very expensive at the beginning.

Now that i have steel i build the precast concrete factory, than railroads cost nothing anymore...

Hey! I did another try and it was very succesfull. THis time i made it in Februar 1963 but you can see on the screenies... I did more or less everything the same way like last time, but made no mistakes. So no i am on my way to to billion...
