Detailed maps with legend
Hello Comrades,

As you know, we really need a resources map to properly plan our extraction activities and all the downstream industries, but the few we can find online were lacking a bit of information in my opinion, so I decided to make my own. I added a couple other things that should help the player understand the country as a whole and alleviate the effect of tunnel vision on a small area. I think that I managed to squeeze as much information as one can get from the starting map, but if you realize I missed something, let me know. Any type of suggestion, feedback, error report, etc is very welcome.

The data originates from the DDS files found in the game saves for the relief and resources locations. In game counting for the population demographic (sum of the capacities of buildings in a settlement –yes, I counted manually...). Walking distance display, average height of a storey and a bit of approximative calculations for the distances and altitudes. In game observations for the rest.
There is no geographical coordinates accessible for the player in-game, so the grid is randomly placed. The lines are spaced roughly 5 km apart. There are no indications regarding cardinal points either, so I chose to put the western block to the west and south as it is the most common configuration in central Europe and the camera starts facing towards the north direction on this map (Oh, and the sun is at the bottom too)

I simplified the resources deposits to get a somewhat simplified and thus more realistic look to the map and for aesthetic purposes. You can find the actual repartition of resources here[i.redd.it]. I chose to show a relatively large area around the hotspots, in order to not have a too messy end product, to keep that "realism" side and to maintain the challenge it is to locate the veins and actual good spots for your mines/rigs.
Also, English is not my mother tongue and I’m not used to geographical terms in English so much, so tell me if I made syntax or vocabulary mistakes.

I made everything with GIMP. I was considering geolocalizing in QGIS, but the area was small enough for me to do everything manually with GIMP.
I took my inspiration from several topographic maps found on the internet from around the middle of the XX’ century or later. From former soviet countries or not.
I might adapt that to future updates of the game if I’m still around and if the modifications are not too big. It technically is possible to make a similar map with an ongoing save, I think. I might make an attempt later with one of mines.

May this help you plan your economy better, Comrades!

Edit : added blank map; added precisions on resources display

Wonderful work! This map is amazing I am jealous of your cartographic abilities

Edit: a blank map version would be greatly appreciated as well if you have the time 😊

Great work! Just one minor remark, it'd be great if you could also show the oil reserves in the lakes. You can easily access those by raising the lake floor.

Happy that you like it. :)
A blank version should not be too difficult. I will make that in the next few days.
Interestingly enough, the border posts are named and placed differently in a blank game, I notice.

What do you mean with (blank map) names changes? That I only remove the names of the towns?

What do you mean with (blank map) names changes? That I only remove the names of the towns? No, I just meant that on the blank map there are neither roads nor towns.. and the border places have a different name distribution. Nice map and very useful.

Okay thats kinda awesome... although i had liked the challenge of finding the resources, but it is getting a little old now. But we dont want to make it too easy. Zomg.... i just had a thought.... "Surveying" or "Survey Team" could be a technology researched at the University. So in the early game you have to manually search for the resources but late-game once that technology is
researched you get this awesome map ingame! Or a similar procedurelly generated map for when we have multiple maps, generated ingame maybe from the DDS files?
This has to be included in the game. It just has to. Devs! Devs! omg you must! That would be perfect. No change early game but late game all the resources can be exploited with serious industry. Perfectly paced game.!

Yes, a geologist office or something similar is regularly requested. I like the idea to integrate something to the university, though. Indeed a fine addition to the game balance. As for now, I find "the challenge of finding the resources" to be much of a hassle that doesn't bring much in terms of gameplay, which is the reason we need these maps.
Regarding procedural generation, as I understand things, the DDS file itself should be randomized to get something different at each start of the game. But I'm not quite sure it would really add much to the game, to be honest.

Das ist eine wunderbare Karte, die im Spiel noch fehlte.
