Diesel vs Electric Trains
Which trains to use and why? Electric ones are more expensive to buy?

it depends. Diesel trains are pretty cool does not require electric tracks but require fuel stations. electric trains are pretty cool but require electric tracks and sucks huge amount of power. if you have 4x 6kw train if all moves same time from stationary it will overload your single powerplant. so it depends on your situation and design.

Electric is the best honestly if you have your whole grid set up

not exactly to be honest diesel is more utilising if you open refinery

I try to find reasons to justify using diesel and so far I have found few to make it better or comparable to electric, at least for passenger service. I could see using diesel for freight but only because having delays due to fueling is not an issue with cargo vs passengers which are time sensitive. However I have found motorwagens to be extremely useful for small commutes so... My opinion on this is purely that.

And as far as I understand you have to have electrified railways to use the same lines for trainsets and cargo (even if it is diesel)...

At the moment, using diesel trains on a complex layout is really annoying because they will try to refuel in the most ridiculous places. Once we are able to schedule refuelling at a particular stop then they should be much better.

They should refuel at a station as part of the scheduled stops. Refuelling depots should be an extension on the station to allow this.

I use diesel trains for cargo, and electric for passenger trains. I think this will be more real

I go at start refinery with diesel when i open coal mines and extra power plants i switch to electric.
Diesel works at cargo pretty well.

wrong. Trainsets are also varies in internal as electric and diesel.

To use diesel trains in a network is very risky because they can turn and go back on the wrong track when they need to refuel... Result is a major lock up of the network. Sadly this can't be prevented by signals.
So diesel trains are only useful if you do the "one train - one track" philosophy.

You have to place refueling stations in such a way that the train always has one in line. If you only have one near the first station of course it will turn back, but from my experience if there is one at the next stop it will continue to it first.

Diesel trains all the life :)

No issues with electricity outage, less expensive, better looking.

I never saw that behaviour, I only read that here in the forum, and I have a quite complex infrastructure. Something must be wrong in your setup if train do that, lack of signaling, or wrong placed signals probably
