Anyway, the idea is that you can use one of them in place of 2 LL. It has some pros and cons that way.
2x L Laser = 10 tons and less damage.
1x Binary Laser = 9 tons and more damage.
So everytime you plan on running 2x L Laser, you might think about rather taking 1x Binary Laser instead.
Running 4x L Laser? Maybe use 2x Binary Laser instead.
And yes, Solaris DLC impemented Binary Lasers while YAML had them for ages.
I haven't seen the Solaris Binary Laser stats so I only worked with the YAML stats because I expect them to be more or less the same.
Especially up until the War of '39 and the Clan Invasion.
Also, the introduction year is incorrect in that screenshot, its 2812.
One of the other main benefits is the slight weight reduction.
But they were never meant to be a direct upgrade from the standard LL.
Especially on a mech with a good number of upgrade slots.
The benefit is a bit more pronounced for the BL though.
Short of that they are supposed to be slightly better than two larges, like previously mentioned.
It's two large lasers welded together. If your 'Mech has the tonnage and can handle the heat, it's a good big hit weapon, it's a less heat and tonnage efficient PPC but then, I.S. PPCs aren't really efficient in any of those two fields.
LOLOLOL amusing since a ppc generates about 7~ heat per shot and the B laser is around 17-20~. ppcs you can also fire faster by about 5~ rpm or so
