the weight class paradox
or conundrum. You max armor an atlas and you've got lots of firepower, lots of options, and can take a beating. Playing assaults and heavies feels more tactical, more...professional. But you strap an ecm on a flea going 150 sanics and just go "HAHAHA I'M ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ INSANE!" and your armor doesnt matter because you're never being hit and you become death, destroyer of legs. Which do you prefer?

I like the 64.8kph speed range. The 81s have to much engine and doesnt leave alot of firepower.

I like assaults for the all-out missions. I like the Godzilla feeling. Until artillery starts pounding your lancers to bits. Takes a long walk at 48 kph to reach the arty gun batteries in a distant corner of a beachhead mission map.

If you don't want to watch it, 3 Atlases, a Warhammer, an Orion, a Javelin, and a Flea are all in the same target location. I charge in with an SRM Dervish, supported by 3 AI Cyclops whose largest weapons are a single LB-10X for each of them.

Oh yeah, Splatapult, and all SRM spammer mechs are absolute MURDER lol. Even in the AI hands. The mod I used to run, Reloaded, gave enemy mechs TONS of loadouts, including the Javelin, Catapult, Kintaro and a few other SRM builds and yeah, even in AI hands they would fk your world up if you let them shoot you for to long.

The basic unmodded Javelin is kinda scary sometimes. I've seen it beat the sh** out of my lance AI if it gets behind them.

And yeah, the default LRM Catapult's kind of a joke since all you need to do is run up to it and facehug it. But if it had an SRM variant, it wouldn't be funny anymore. It's lame that the only official SRM Cat is the Butterbee hero mech.

There is an official SRM boat that's halfway decent--the Trebuchet-5S. For some reason, though, it seems the enemy AI's never in one. Maybe it's not even in the game at all? I haven't looked for it. But, point is, it's a legit design that shouldn't require a mod. It'd function as a tougher, slightly slower Javelin. But what makes it dangerous (besides twin SRM6 and 3 med lasers) is that it carries enough heat sinks to shoot everything. That's rare for a medium mech with no Lostech.

Yeah, thats why reloaded was AMAZING. It expanded the hardpoints. There WAS a 6M hardpoint Catapult that Navid placed 6x SRM6+Art IV on. I believe it was the CPLT-C1 variant. When you encountered it, you either killed it at range, or you ceased to exist. I used to play with Navid's MWO lancemate Xios and he got ass packed by one....he took his King Crab and got almost deleted.

I was once in my own game and got half of my Zeus almost taken off in just a couple volleys. I wont ever forget the one time I got an SRM Carrier up my ass. I climbed a hill, turned left to shoot some tanks, and an SRM carrier put a volley up my Warhammer's poop chute.....ass armor was stripped, arm armor was gone...it was rough.

I would think 6 SRM would overwhelm the heat capacity of a 65t mech pretty quickly (because it can't have much space/weight left over for sinks).

A Stalker could handle the same 6 better.

Unless other mods changed the way heat worked, then it's a moot point.

What's the missile-iest mech in the base game? Either a hero Archer or like a Kintaro-GB?

Wait, just looked it up in-game. The Crusader also has a variant with 6 slots. 4 are small, though. Also, good luck actually finding that variant on the map.

Set up group fire properly to manage the heat. Also, Reloaded added an engine heat sink module, basically gave us the free 10 heat sinks the base game is missing, so base coolant was higher. He also added endo, ferro, all the goody tech that the base game doesnt have. Soooo, even MORE weight savings. I cant say for *sure* what the heat situation on it was, as i never really liked to use cheese builds, I just know it was murder if you let it live.

The Yet Another Mech Lab is more or less a spiritual successor to Reloaded's Mechlab.

I'm mainly wondering how the AI coped with the heat.

The Crusader I mentioned (base game) with 4xSRM4 and 2xSRM6 (all tier 1, since this was instant action) overheated badly after about 3 alphas.

AI hit a heat a heat threshold and dont fire until thier heat is cooled off. They wont fire to over themselves. Sooo, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the loadout's heat management, the slower the mech will fire.

For my first time through the game, I preferred playing my Highlander. Drop in, and engage in brutal slug fights to the death, cheering each time my gauss rifle takes the head off a enemy, all the while watching my own armor and limbs fall away.

My second game? The Hero Firestarter armed with 10 flamers. Locust? Dead in two seconds. Rifleman? Dead in five. A whole lance of enemy assaults and heavies? Wiped out in 2 minutes. I am become 35 ton Death, destroyer of mechs.

I only recommend the use of a Steiner Scout Mech. :steiner:

The use of anything else would be uncivilized :nwquest:

Steiner Royalty .... will always make the right decision.

This is something I never really tried, due to my annoyance with flamers being rather blinding when fired.

But, doing a test with 8 tier 5s and energy damage upgrades, they are pretty impressive.

I partial to the Zeus hero mech with Mask. SRM boat, kneecapper/pilot popper. Otherwise I use the hero Archer or the hero Crusader and do the same thing but they don't have MASK.

Honestly.... I'm a fan of anything with AMS....

Not so much a fan of slow things... mainly because of those stupid beachhead missions where artillery is always the furthest possible point away from you dropping shells on your head.
