(People here should know me well enough already, but just in case, THIS DOES NOT MEAN I PREFER MW4).
I thought "hams" was Heat Activated Myomer Systems?
Ah, ok, I am with you now lol.
This all adds up to "outlook unlikely" when I shake my magic 8 ball of wistful hopes and dreams.
I completely forgot that enemy dropships were a thing in MW4. Yes, those should make a comeback. Adding enemy support vehicles as kill objectives would be a good idea.
I am with you on engines, but I will bet money that will not be coming back. Listen to Russ Bullock's interviews on this YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@NoGutsNoGalaxy After listening to all of them, I think PGI believes the following:
- Swapping engines allows chassis to become too similar and obviated the Mech Market, reducing difficulty too much.
- The mechlabs in MWO and even MW5 are a continuing source of "menu fatigue" for new players and must be made more accessible.
Tinkering in a Mechlab can be a lot of fun for some but it can very quickly make things stale. Until MW4 came along Mechs were not honestly different in any of the Mechwarrior games outside of geometry and while the hardpoint system was a step in the right direction once you get past 60 Tons in that game all variety goes out the window in favour of PPC+Gauss poptarting.
This is precisely why hardpoint sizes were added. Now mechs are defined not just by the number and type of hardpoints, but their sizes as well. Example: the Urbanmech is more unique among light mechs now because it can install large ballistic weapons in it's big arm.
