Many people will instantly come blabbing about YAML, but be mindful - this mod alters a lot of things and requires digging into to understand some details, even before starting the game - all the mod options and what they do specifically. Play a little bit vanilla and then you'll have some idea of what might be improved upon in your opinion, then give the "most subscribed/downloaded" mods page a glance (here on the Workshop or on Nexusmods) to see if anything sounds good to you. However, also take into the account that not all the mods may be updated to fit the latest version of the game and might cause serious conflicts and crashes. Workshop mods tend to screw up sometimes and not update correctly, so manual attention to mod management is very much advised.
The Jumpship Edition has Heroes of the Inner Sphere, and the Kestral Lancers. So sounds like that bundle is a decent starting point given the discount then. Rise of Rasalhague isn't part of it, but the bundle is a pretty good deal in my currency atm, so even without that, would you say that's a good start?
I'll keep from modding for now, you make an excellent point about not knowing what it would affect until after playing for a bit.
That bundle is a good price, but without the base game puts it just out of my price range for now. But thanks for all your help. I think I will buy the Jumpship one now, sounds like it should be a good deal before the sale ends!
I confidently recommend to try MW5 without DLCs. The base game has enough content to entertain you during first 30+ hours to pass the main quest in Campaign.
Then, only then you will appreciate DLCs, new biomes, new mecs, weps and etc.
I tried MW5 with 4 dlcs a year ago, got overwhelmed by missions and equipment.
Recently as newbie again I've passed the base game only, but with QoL mods. And that was pure joy. The base game is very neat and pretty balanced.
If DLCs are on sale, then buy them and disable in Steam Library to try later.
I ended up getting the bundle with a couple DLC's, but will keep this in mind if I find it's too much to start with.
