It's not misinformation, and I'm talking to someone new to PC gaming and modding. It is far better to use their tool (Vortex), which also auto-manages the download, installation, uninstallation, and updating. After using it for an extended time for many different games, I see no reason why anyone wouldn't, Why you think posting sources on how to mod the game make your point, confuses me.
A lot of these problems we hear about mods not working, occur because the workshop has updated a mod, but their other mods are not updated accordingly because they were installed manually through Nexus. Just more trouble for more trouble.
Yeah, I was just talking generally. People would have less trouble with mods (from Nexus), if they all used Vortex. I think some people are just a bit wary of programmes like that, but Vortex is solid, and so was its predecessor mod manager.
Anytime you want to check for updates, you can just launch Vortex.
There is one part that is completely incorrect of your statement - Vortex can't manage load order (thankfully!). Outside of that, you're correct.
I've done some more looking. I was correct when I said that Vortex sorts the load order for you. Check this out:
https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/The_Vortex_approach_to_load_order_sorting
However, I was wrong when I said that you can't customise load order in Vortex. I've gone back and corrected that part.
Numerous registrations, agreements and connections with apps. After 15 minutes of that I just dragged the mod folder from zip to \steamapps\common\MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries\MW5Mercs\Mods and been ok.
Aftermath it left 5+ garbage folders in AppData and system, took a while to clean up.
I'd love to know what you're talking about lol. Been a while since I installed it, but I can't remember having those (or any) sorts of issues, and OP who is completely new to PC gaming had no issues.
Obviously you need to be registered to Nexus (which you also need to do to download the mods manually), there would be an agreement you have to click yes to (like with any program), and then after that it should automatically detect what games you're running.
Edit: Please don't take anything I said to mean you're not competent - I've had a bad day and I might not be using the right words.
Yep, registration, connect Nexus profile, find the game. I have 2 steam stores, one on laptop, and one on external HDD. Probably that confused Vortex.
Well, I have a bad memory, Vortex attracted me that I don't gonna bother with finding an actual steam folder. But to help it I opened it from steam. Since I have found the MW5 folder, I knew that I need simply drag and drop the mod, and I did it.

It is easy and simple to install a mod by myself. If there are 10+ Nexus mods, then it is worth to bother with Vortex to have functionality of Steam subscriptions.
I have only 4 yet.
I forgot Vortex needed to link to Steam - I guess if you have more than 1 account, that could confuse it. I guess that explains why it co-exists so nicely with the workshop.
In this game, it's not as hard as others to manage a few mods installed manually (though even with 4 I'd contend it ends up taking a bit longer). However, Nexus has mods for a lot of games. I think I use 7 mods for this game, but it's hard to find a Skyrim player who has less than 50 lol . That was actually the game LOOT (a fan made app to manage mod conflicts) was made for, and it was then integrated into Vortex.
That's not to say you must use Vortex if you don't want to. What you're doing is fine, and you know the option is there if you ever need it :)
