There is also "mouse_y" and "mouse_x" in the .ini file. Can I trick the game into thinking my stick is a mouse?
These may all be ridiculously stupid questions, but this is my first go in PC gaming.
If you still wish to desecrate your own comfort just Google it or put in the search bar here the word "HOTAS" - the world of joystick weirdos awaits.
I ended out using joytokey and mapped the joystick axes to the wasd keys and voila! Now I can play in First Person mode with joystick + mouse and not a controller.
I hope this helps someone else out.
KB&M just works fine and feels good.
Later I got a joystick that allowed you to twist for rudder control, and I used the twist to control left/right on the torso. I achieved better results with that, but it only really worked well for short range, because the torso aiming wasn't precise enough for anything else.
I like the thought of using a joystick, to make the controls more like a mech cockpit, but keyboard/mouse works best by a mile. I would though like to try joystick for turning, and VR headset with head movement controlling torso rotation/tilt. Perhaps someone here has tried that (and I'm willing to bet it doesn't work nearly as well as you'd think).
This isn't the 'old mechwarrior' and just because there was a feature in an older title does not set a precedent for this title.
As mechs are not REAL - how would anyone actually know what is a 'real' mech cockpit.
Printed, Bound and Published Toilet paper and in game art work (in this title or older) prove nothing
I have no idea what feature you are talking about, I'm just saying in the earlier mechwarrior games, because I used a joystick a lot at that point in time, I used that. You can use a joystick in any mechwarrior game, though it might take a workaround or 2.
You see part of the mech cockpit and the joystick in this game, have you never noticed? So why are you trying to say that isn't how the mech is controlled in the game? While you're thinking about that, how many real life vehicles are controlled from inside with a mouse and a keyboard, compared to some sort of joystick?
Honestly pete, after interacting with you just a couple of times, I've decided to stop. The day you understand why, you will be a happier person.
As posted previously.
1) just because something was in MW2 to 4 does not set a precedent that requires the devs of MW5 or higher to match.
2) The visual representation of the cockpit is an artist's impression - the same goes for the ridiculous 'novels' it's all in the mind of the creator.
3) So you can imagine what you want and there is no 'offical' cockpit layout. And anything is possible in science FICTION
