Advantage of an AC over a laser in the game is you don't need to keep the AC on the location to deliver all that damage. Never cared for the BF ACs in this game, excluding AC-2BF which just throw out so many shots it's kind of fun.
Knockdown was in Mecwarrior online - it was removed because of goofballs abusing it. This means that PGI has experience with Knockdown - if they care to use it.
I fear the clans will not be the clans of Lore - But some silly modern version where they talk in Inner Sphere slang and curse like drunken sailors. Mechwarrior online is a perfect Example on how PGI can tone down clan mechs.... Lets also add - that on release - I expect Bugs Galore.

modern mechwarrior games dont need knock down on ballistic's considering how AC's work now over like mechwarrior 3
