Cheating is not a solution for crashes.
The Starmap Mouseover one.
This'll come in handy as after repeated attempts - that mod being disabled - it finally went through to the post-mission screen, and I now need to reimburse myself a king crab and T5 AC/20's
Thought it sounds like you've been a victim of the gloriously bad memory management in the game. Now there's garbage collection stuff in YAML if you're using it (sounds like you aren't) but you can get a lot of the same qol stuff from the aptly named "Quality of Life Upgrades 2". It's got the Garbage Collection stuff as well as other nice things, but without the YAML stuff (same dev).
So unsurprisingly, someone made a mod that will clear out some of that crap a bit more often, helping minimise those wonderful memory leak crashes. Doesn't stop them all, but it makes them a rare enough occurrence you don't feel inclined to use a save editor.
