In the unmodded game, either 4xUAC-5 or 4xLB-X-10 (preferably solid slugs) will also pretty much wipe everything out in a few shots, but only Carapace and two of the Annihilators can actually mount that kind of loadout, and the latter is too slow for my liking. Haven't tried heavy rifles, but they're hard to use.
The "better cantina" mod changes the ballistic cooldown upgrades to 25% and 50% (and the general cooldown upgrade 15%) for the sole reason that the author thought rifles were underpowered (while also having no understanding that PGI made them overpowered compared to what they ought be). Said author then paid no heed to the second order consequences of making -90% ballistic cooldown a thing. When confronted about it, they said they'd patch it, but the mod hasn't been patched in years.
Likewise, getting 4x Heavy Rifles on a Mauler isn't possible without YAML or a mod that adds 'mech variants.
I think that's what the OP is saying. The game balance was already broke by ganging rifles and/or machine guns - or any ballistic weapon (other than AC's and UAC's) that had yet to be nerfed - vanilla OR modded.
I remember this used to be a problem with MWO in the early years, with ganged AC's and UAC's. They fixed the problem by nerfing the guns - by creating a heat accumulation problem when multiple AC's or UAC's were fired simultaneously. You could partially get around the nerfed-gun thermal limitations by chain-firing the gun arrays, giving rise to what we used to call "buzz-saw", or "chain-saw" mech-configurations. Apparently, the AC / UAC thermal-nerf was carried over to MW5.
Interestingly the light auto-cannons (LAC's) don't seem to have been nerfed this way, so in addition to rifles and machine guns, you can single shot just about about anything with LAC's as well, without generating significant heat.
the AC2/ UAC2 meta was only broken recently in MWO.... with the introduction of the HAG for clanners. if you were not aware, they're implemented basically as burstfire gauss, and range from 10-40. dual HAG 30+ tends to melt most CTs in just a few bursts from ~1km away.
MW5 does reuse a lot of stats from MWO, but the main limitation to this setup here is the severe lack of mechs capable of boating even small ballistics. we're much earlier in the timeline, with far less customization options.
dont get me wrong, there are a few mechs that CAN do it, like the mauler. the vast majority of mechs, though, are some split of laser and missile, with maybe an AC or two in the mix.
No, OP is basing his incorrect opinion that heavy rifles are OP based on a mod that make them OP. Don't excuse someone's inability to think lest you yourself be considered stupid.
