They could also have rounded out this edition with other mech variants that make use of NSS too but I don't think there were a whole lot equipped with CPLS.
Last time I played I could order my guys to walk into a base from outside the base's detection range and the defenses and mechs wouldn't do anything until I ordered the guys to attack. Was so very silly.
i dont know about lancemates, but if you get within range, there will be a warning. if you stay within range for a set time, then you have a set time to destroy all assets at the outpost you triggered. if you succeed, everything's fine. if you do not, the general alarm is raised, and everything on the map starts coming for you.
