Does anyone remember LAN parties?

I remember as far back as windows 7 & 8 being able to just go to my network settings, start a new network with an IP address, then all your friends connected to your network and could all play computer games together in the same crowded living room.
Now, does anyone know if that can be done with a windows 10/11 desktop? Because My group of people is all in the same damn house, and we can't ever play MP games together because even though I've got one of the fastest internet connections available around here, it doesn't appear to mean anything when it comes to gaming with friends.

Should be generated automatically with wifi:
CMD>ipconfig
Should show IP address there.
Doesn't seem to be an OS but more an ISP issue.

LAN hasn't changed. To make thangs easy use 1 router. Can always use DHCP from the router, always best to assign yourselves IP address in the same class C private range.

So I found in my "View Hardware and Connection Properties" screen, I have 2 W-LAN connections, and my current Netgear Device, but they say "Deactivated" and I cant seem to find a way to activate them. I even brought out My old wifi router, disconnected from the internet, plugging this router into my PC and I still couldn't start my own network, it just showed the neighbors networks

Oh yeah we did lan parties all the time back in DOS with Doom on null modem cables then later bnc based network. Played CnC, warcraft2, Redalert most of the major old school fps's, diablo, Netmech, mercnet, and when it launched we all waited until Friday-saturday lan party at the beginning of spring break for 8 player FFA starcraft and we all agreed wed install and not play anything past the tutorial, which made deathmatch interesting.
Those were good times.
That and Rick was the first person with a decent internet feed, and ISDN way back when and wed do 3v3 StarCraft battlenet lots of great times!

Lame old days, lugging around a full and Mid-tower cases, big CRT monitors back in the day. Extremely heavy hardware components HD before SSD, most of our PC came with CD-ROMS / DVD where each player needed original disc to play. Those were the days...

Only lan party I ever did was back in ... oh jeez... 98-00 I think? I didnt have my own PC but a friend provided. It was for an Unreal Tournament evening.

I spent enough time grabbing cheap used stuff that was good enough i had some extra boxes that werent great but good enough and we did UT quake1-3, heretic through He en2, lots of cnc etc. But o e we used to do towards the end of the lan era was MW4. One of the game types was goliaths, for those that didnt play it was 1 assault bs 3-6 lights.
Wed set a 15 minute game time and wed just rotate around the room for who was the next assault pilot, that was lots of fun!
From Doom on a null modem cable to the best of 2004 in multiplayer games i would NOT trade my LAN party memories for anything.

loved LAN parties, Playing AOE, Star Craft, of course Counter Strike, Unreal Tourney, Rise of Nations, Titan Quest, Diablo, D2, Star Wars Galaxy, Star Wars Battlefront, Battlefield 1942 all the way to BF2, GunBound and many others.

No lugging heavy towers, monitors around junky cars as a teenager/early 20s wasn't fun. But hanging out with friends all day/weekend, drinking soda, eating pizza or takeout was fun. Oh and lots of porn vids sharing.....

LAN parties pretty much equalled about 4 of my flats when younger with a networked household and ethernet cables snaking from room to room to trip over.
