The game makes the computer instantly shutdown and restart itself
After the Piranha logo shows up, it switches to a black screen and immediately the computer shuts down, disk stop being accessed, fans stop spinning, cpu goes to sleep, then a couple seconds afterwards it starts itself again.
Never had any such problem with any game.
I've tried to run the game as admin in windowed mode, without overlays, same happens.
What in the world is going on?

Mod?
System Specs?
morikaane Feb 4, 2023 @ 7:29pm
That could be a PSU issue, is it limited only to MW5?

That's way too fast for a heat issue. It's pretty early for bad memory, too. I like Morikaane's thought - have you played other graphically intense games lately?

I'm having all kinds of issues as well. I just bought the game with all expansions and it's just crash after crash. I have no Mods and I have over 600 games on Steam this is the only one I can't run.

Have a read through Valen's performance guide, it may assist.

if it doesn't help you will need to provide your specs including OS, that might shed some light on the problem.

I think the Piranha logos etc aren't fps capped iirc.
Do you have a high-quality power supply or any kind of no-name psu?
This could be the issue that your graphics card causes peak power draws, which low-quality power supply cannot provide. Of course max. provided power is also of importance.

It does sound like the power supply issue. I've had it on my old PC when I bought a (then) new video card that was too power hungry: once the card power consumption went too high the PSU protection would kick in and shut it down to prevent going in flames, which to me looked like a PC would suddenly decide to reboot. Buying a decent PSU from a well-known brand fixed the issue. So, if it crashes to desktop it's not the PSU, but if it suddenly reboots then most likely you need a better power supply unit.

It is not the game - that is doing it. It could be many different things in your computer - that is at fault. Could be hardware failing under stress CPU, Memory, Power supply, Motherboard, Video Card (I myself had a past bad video card that worked - and caused a crash every time it was under stress -- when I ran MW5). May also be various software issues... errors in registry, errors in the game files, Non compatible 3rd party software running in the background, Virus, Drivers, etc....

It however, is not the game itself.

try launching the game with the following command: -norhithread
An old fix for ARK survival, seems to work for MW5.

I concur with the other comments about this sounding like PSU issue. What is your system specs / PSU model and wattage?

Oh! Some video cards aren't smart about that. Maybe use the video card driver properties to cap the frame rate at something silly, like 300fps?

I added this as you suggested but I also reinstalled the game on 3rd hard drive and so far I finished 3 missions with no crashes. So it's either the game didn't like my 2 SSDs, one of them a 2 month old 970 evo pro and it likes my external WD black instead, or the command you suggested worked.

Edit

Make that 4 missions with no crashing.

FPS capping through your driver setup usually helps.
Siozen Feb 6, 2023 @ 12:17am
Yeah, cap it at 60fps/vertical sync. The game was driving my gpu crazy loud on the fans until I did that. I was seeing 120-500fps in the menus at times.
