Free Rasalhague Republic Campaign
What am I missing? I've been playing through this campaign, its difficult but enjoyable. Then I get to the "Radstadt Beachead for the First Tyr" and its a complete ambush. My four assault mech's are under constant Artillery and VTOL attack, super heavy tanks are everywhere, and there's more mech's than I can shake a PPC.

I've tried using my Phoenix Hawk to take out the Arty, but by they time I do my 3 Assault mechs are wiped out. A direct assault one the base gets me wiped out even quicker.

Anyone found an attack strategy that's giving them a fighting chance?

Well, the artillery aims at you alone so as long as you aren't close to them they shouldn't be hit. Which assault mechs do you have and what weapons and heatsinks are on them?

I am also stuck on that mission after 9 tries, I give up. Radstadt mission is nothing more then lessons not learned by PGI, Kestrel Lancers Tigress 2nd mission all over again. With all the demolisher tanks, Scorpions tanks, Igors, constant artillery fire, constant heavy and assault mechs attacks and next to useless friendly mech drop ( all dead in about 2 minutes ). Once you get past that and capture the base you still have 11 enemies ( combination of demolisher tanks and mechs ) and oh ya 1 more final enemy drop. By that point my lance is either dead or behond useless. The mech I pilot is so torn up that I am useless. I tried to field everything from 200 ton lance to 320 ( max I have cuz the rest of my mechs are getting repaired).

I did get to finishing line every time, even with my Centurion starting mech. Real problem is you get so torn apart, that going with the mission to the end is just frustrating and not worth it, because you'll most likely lose a whole lot of specially great weapons along the way.
I never truly finished the mission simply because I can't bring myself to lose those lvl 5 weapons I love so much for no good reason other than sheer numbers thrown your ass nonstop.

They should tpne down some missions in that campaign for sure.
Too many enemy mechs spawning on top of each other and really no strategy working. No place to take cover, dropships coming in every directions.

Also not enough time to repair even a red armor, no good mechs on sale. And it hits in 3034.

Basically you are forced to cheese with M Laser meta headpops, or import a modded campaign with a lot of clan stuff that completly makes zero sense in 3034, and even more less from a merc company.

I enjoyed very much Kestrel Lancers Campaign, was hard but rewarding and doable with efforts and preparations on a fresh start. With Rasalhague they went nuts. The last three missions are beyond insanity. Hey, behold my eight mechs "lance" that sorround you from everywhere on top of cliffs - Hey, you think you re done with an half scrapped mech but now get this 11 enemies drop for FUN

Can't wait to try this when Merctech V3 is out. Sounds a like hoot.

Think thats bad? Wait till you have to defeat up to 24 heavy and assault mechs in a canyon system in waves using nothing but your own stunted AI companions and some suicidal friendly npcs. Suposedly said mechs are of oposing faction but they will ignore each other and b-line directly towards you and try to focus you down. Im now of the opinion that the campaign start is more or less impossible without using some serious stinky cheese since you barely have any time for RnR between missions. Even kestrel lancers usually gave you enough time between missions for you to only have to switch between 2 lances worth of mechs.

Here they expect you to have an entire reinforced battalion of mechs at the ready, nvmd the new hangar bay costs eating you up. XD

I guess enemy number up is the only way PGI can make missions challanging

No need for guessing. That's precisely what it is.
Sure, it's not the only way they got.
But it's clearly the only way they are willing to go.

Thanks for the input fellow MWs, I kinda figured it was just what everyone indicated. I'm going back and starting a new campaign in hopes I can develop a team and some good mechs. Though I'm not sure the opportunity for this mission will become available. Thanks again and good hunting.

Just chiming in, played through the new campaign once, it was tough at some parts but fun. And I had no significant issues with the repair times honestly. Between salvage, mech market and the longer repair time between planet jumps there is enough time to prep lances for the next meatgrinder.

I wish they would continue to make more campaigns like this.

Isnt phoenix hawk, like, too light for ROR missions?

No. I got stuck going into it with only three assaults (Two zeuses from Kestrels and a battlemaster) and I only had to repeat the final beach-head one time, every other mission I got first try. In vanilla singleplayer. With heavy damage and occasional big casualties, sure, but still. Based on how people are talking about how rough it is in their assault lances, I'm beginning to suspect that having mechs that are a smaller target and move faster is actually extremely helpful. My biggest contributors were my Kintaro 19B from the bounty hunter intel rewards and my Cataphract 1X that I equipped with an LB 10X, a Large Laser SB, and a Heavy Arena Fist.
I think something people are missing is that they very much expected you to have more than 12 mechs available (I was fielding 18 when I started the campaign I believe) https://www.reddit.com/r/Mechwarrior5/comments/10efs08/starting_over_what_year_will_rise_of_rasalhague/j4uaspk/

Do they allow orbital drop airstrikes on this mission? I just got the DLC, haven't started its campaign yet, but thinking when I get to this mission I'll use the mod that replaces the airstrike with a drop ship of friendly mechs.
