You are right, good sir. That's what I get for going off memory and not booting up either the game or sarna.net (thanks broken Covid brain).
In Battletech PC (2018, HBS), the Annihilator was my #1 favourite mech because you could put three Gauss on it, and take heads off like a Guillotine (not the Mech...Why don't we ever see the Guillotine mech?). With MW5's limits of not just weapon type, but size, no Annihilator can take a Gauss, and it makes me so sad.
and honestly no idea why Dragoons didn't decide to manufacture 1G variants of the Annihilator in the Sphere post helm or why it wasn't retconned into the masterunitlist.
Really wish we had the 5W variant in this game, that would be amazing. Oh well.
Heh. BattleTech PC game. I have that, but couldn't get far, as right after the tutorial mission, my mechs simply refused to cool down between turns. Then I put the game on hold and didn't pick it back up again...
I see your point, but disagree heavily because the whole game is mechs that are like other mechs. Catapult, Archer, both can have buku LRMs and four MLas, but very different mechs. And the Guillotine doesn't get any love in this or Battletech PC.
For standalone mech mods that are NoT part of yaml ir something else how do they land in the game. Store, loot, show up in missions, need a console command to add one, will it just show up in the mech delivery mod?
Or, am I mistaking the term?

I like assaults and it really speaks my language in regards to loadouts.
Fed Suns recovered it, Lyrans build it on Loxley, somehow Taurians got the 1D model
Shows up in the same TRO as Mechs like the Nightstar, Pillager and Thunder Hawk, or as I like to call it, the "You get a Gauss Rifle and you get a Gauss Rifle, everyone in the IS gets a Gauss rifle!" TRO
Probably why I loved that TRO...
Tabletopwise, one of my (too many) factions has a just scary mixed support company.
A Lance of Hollander 'mechs
A Lance of Regulator hovertanks
A Lance of Yellowjacket gunships
Twelve high-mobility Gauss Rifle platforms meant for ambushes and sniper support.
Although when it comes to Hollander more of a fan of the G1 variant.
I actually had to look back at TRO 3055. I always found the Lights in that TRO very lacking except the Hollander, although recently been going back to some Venom variants and re-evaluating the Hammer.
Beside - the Annihilator has poor speed and poor armor. Add to this - that it is a walking bomb just waiting for the ammo to get get hit.
i didnt recall all the details, but i love giant gaiss boats amd my preferred backup weps are ppcs and mlas (pulse when available) so its right up my alley, and in 3104 i found my second Nightstar so i am 1000% onboard for the you get a gauss and you grt a gauss etc etc vine you were talking about.
@kay
yeah gaiss support can be scarey lol but yeah having them in game could be nuts!
@Valen
You can uparmor the ani substantially, and while vs other players who know how to place shots it might be like armoring yourself with contact explosives, vs the ai i have rarely taken significant damage, but dayum does quad lb10x-SLD’s does some crazy damage and i have a LOT of cockpit time in one, probably my second most used mech behind my Nightstar.
Tabletop for sure its a risk here not too bad really.
