Yaml related question
This question is more geared for those here who use the Yet another Mechlab mod.
I want to know what the point is to equipment like primitive engines.
the mod already adds engine cores which has in the description what speed the mech can go up ro, but the primitive engine is a piece of equipment that can be added on top of the core and equipping it actually makes my mechs move slower.
I'm a bit puzzled whats its used for is not using it makes my mechs go faster already.
Like if this is a part to upgrade my mech to add some sort of capability like ams or better targeting sensors i'm not seeing it.

Primitive engines aren't an upgrade. I think in practical terms they exist in YAML for the sake Yet Another Mech Variant and players that want them to recreate primitive lore variants.

A primitive engine is only about 80% as effective as a standard engine while also being about double the size as well so yeah as above, they are only there to make primitive lore mechs.

So does this mean i should just skip anything with the primitive label on it?
in my game i'm around the year 3022 and i'm just now seeing primitive armor. should i skip that as well?

Yes if you're not someone who wants to build pre-star league collapse mech builds with mech variants that were outfitted with primitive engines/armour, same goes for the armour as well, the armour is actually worse than what comes as standard on mechs that you can get at the START if this games time frame as that too is pre-star league collapse, it weighs more and actually provides less protection (2/3rd of standard armour), is nowhere near as reliable than standard armour AKA not as structurally sound and finally is basically equivalent to "slightly" better tank armour.

There should be options to disable many such things (Such as primitive armor) - It is just one of the reasons ... I don't use it. Nobody... in their right mind - would use primitive armor during the time period of this game... Unless there was no other option.

Because with yaml - what you get is someone(s) idea of what they personally think Mechwarrior 5 should be.

Well, I levitate towards more of a vanilla flavor - wishing that vanilla had a full mechlab... without all the extra junk.

Still waiting for someone to mod a full mechlab for Vanilla MW5.... I guess... I will keep waiting.....

You'll be waiting forever then, i think one of the other reasons why the YAML mechlab was made WAS because of the very lacking vanilla mechlab...It does fill the void somewhat between MW4's and MW3's mech labs, taking parts from both systems and making something worth using over the vanilla one, sure it's not perfect but it works.

Technically, you can. Kinda a pain though. If you go into the configs and make a section for each of the equipment, then set their introduction date to like, 9999, then they'll never appear in a campaign or career

cszolee said on an older thread they were intended to be installed on antique variants initially as something that has to be stripped and replaced to upgrade. Not sure why not in the end.
Honestly I think I would prefer that or just remove them entirely from the mod personally as is its just more store clutter and a source of confusion. You are not the first to ask this OP etc.

Lol. Cszolee brought back how battletech was intended in the 30more years old original game, only adding lore freindly features. So the "someone(s)" idea of what Mechwarrior 5 should be is the original creator of the franchise idea.

Now I understand it's too complex and brings chores like looking for engines when your mech gets cored, and in fact i totally understand devs hypersimplifing over the original concept to make it more accessible.

What i don't understand is bashing and hating on someone that has made a completly optional mod. Just don't use it and move on withouth venting.
