It's ridiculous to let the Capellans sit there and catch their breath. They're vulnerable, and we should be all over them like a bad smell.
-Field Marshal Peter Davion II, 2928
One of their plots revolved around putting a replacement of Prince Hanse Davion on the throne of the Federated Suns, and this one came very close to actually working. The Davions never forgave them, and after seeing what the Capellans did to the man used as the replacement (mentally broke him and recreated his personality), they concluded House Liao was too great a threat to the Federated Suns, their own people, and the general status quo to remain in a position of power.
Their public moral justification was that House Liao was operating an oppressive police state (mostly true) and they were bringing freedom to the Capellan people (dubious - none of the successor states are true democracies).
(The "bandits" were more Capellans)
