Coyotes missions
Does anyone actually play the exploration missions?

The high level ones in particular seem to be a joke. My assault lance versus the equivalent of a battalion and turrets popping out of every gopher hole. Mean while you have to leave your whole lance back at the ship or you lose it because it's constantly under assault even if you kill the marked unit in time.

What's the catch? I'm loaded with experienced Majors. Is it a trap to take you down a peg or something? I just assume abandon the missions as soon as I see it's anything above 50.

Suggestions?

From my experience; depending on the map & difficulty level - they usually hit you with a 3-5 lances (and if you're unlucky... a faction that hates you will send another one on top to attack you).

I've finished dozens of missions between difficulty 80-100.
Worst I've experienced is 3 waves of lances with 2-3 mad dogs primes each. Followed by a wave with 2 annihilators... and then House Liao decided to pay a visit. It was really rough but I managed to survive with a lost leg on my dragon flame and destroyed arm on my marauder.

That being said. From my experience; once these lances are destroyed; they do stop permanently. The challenge is surviving these waves. Sometimes, I find it easier to wait until these waves are cleared before going out to explore freely. The worst you'll find a mech or two at a point of interest; and you'll need to execute one of them before they call for backup.

If you are hero status with a faction you can try finding one of their fortresses on the starmap, and then accept aid from them and they will assist you during your next exploration resource mission.
There are also 3 hidden quests in the galactic map that will each unlock a ravager turret to be deployed around your leopard during these missions.

If you dont want to do the above or just didnt find them yet, then it will just have to take hard work to get through the missions. Retreating via the evac circle is always an option, and using mech swap to one of your guarding lancemates near the dropship to get out quickly is clever way to leave quickly if your current controlled mech is far from the ship.

Sometimes concentrating on killing mechs and salvaging them is all you can do, which in itself can give good profit, as the mission gives huge salvage shares.

This. Definitely worthwhile to camp around your leopard and let the salvage come to you -- with a fast mech you should be able to solo at least one of the objectives though.

If I recall correctly, requesting aid will cost you a bit of reputation; around 15-30 reputation points.

Are the ravager turrets single use? or multi-use?

Once you get one, it will always be defending the leopard on subsequent missions.

One system you can find a ravager on will be diosd. It is somewhat between steiner and kurita territory. If you pick the option to fight both factions at once and win.

cirebon down in lower left marik territory can get you a ravager, if you betray the employer.

after reading this I looked up that mod and it seems real interesting, a good shakeup from regular missions and it seems to put an emphasis on actually working with allied forces instead of just your lance.

Should I get the mod? Does it work in co-op if we both have it installed? Will the mechs addons (like the recently uploaded mech packs) work with it?

Some mech variant mods had issues in the past with it. Making some of the missions fail to spawn enemies.
Better spawns has issues.

Its a bit of a gamble if it will work 100% with the mods you are running, but it does work pretty much perfectly with the base yaml mod.

At the moment I'm not running any mods other than a few QoL mods that change armor colors, colored heat gague, the optimize mod and that's about it. The mech pack I was questioning was the one that was recently uploaded that is like 5 classic mechs or something.

Even without that, if its an overall good experience I may still grab it for my next playthrough.

Yes, it works in coop.

nice, thanks

Also worth noting you don't have to get every single point of interest on these missions. Smash and grab some stuff, and get back to the ship with some booty. Fight it out near the Leopard, get some salvage. And duke into extraction if it's getting overwhelming.
