Wolverine is just a Silly Centurion?
I was kind of excited to find my first Wolverine in Salvage after hearing so much hype... But it basically has the same loadout as a Centurion with one less laser and a smaller autocannon.

Jumpjets? I'm sorry I didn't know this was a light mech, for jumpjets and a smaller autocannon D:<

What is this? Even if I take off the jumpjets I can't fit in a proper AC/10, and it has less armor than the Centurion.

As far as a faster moving air capable Medium Mech goes, I think the Griffin is better. And has a bigger gun, which is important for men who aren't little sissy girls who hop around with an AC/5 and a laser pointer.

I don't understand what is so good about this robot. Can anyone help?

You know you could direct this as the average conversation a Steiner with their Griffin has with a Davion in their Wolverine.

Sounds like you've got the 6R which is pretty meh. The 6K and 6M offer better loadout options but never been a fan of the Wolverine myself.

It's just an okay 55 tonner with jumpjets that moves faster than normal. It's pretty decent for early-mid game raid missions but IMO a shadowhawk SHD-2D is better. Because real mechwarriors recognize putting ballistics on mediums that don't have access to XL engines is dumb, or something, IDK.

Welcome to the world of hardpoint and free tonnage discussion. IMO they are only hyped because of the hidden lostech hero model; if you want to go energy, you have Hunchback with laser vomiting noise, you want ballistic/mixed you have Enforcer/Centurian at 50t, or Jagermech/RIfleman at 60t. It is not outstanding and irreplaceable, so pretty lame once you have other options available.
And it is basically sitting on the edge of medium/heavy, which can be quite awkward in terms of armor. Walks away with my 55t SRM24 Dervish

i think the biggest problem with the wolverine is just that it didn't make a very graceful transition from dougram and, as a result, looks utterly hideous

not even YAML can give it the glow-up it sorely needs

Another problem I have personally seen, is that if you lose the right shoulder in battle (obviously costing the arm attached to it also), you suddenly lose the majority of your weapons. This is by no means a design flaw (if I may call it that) limited to the Wolverine, but sofar it's the only one such a drastic loss has happened to me (sofar and 2x times).
That shoulder is a pretty big target, so based on that, I simply refuse to use it.

Then aren't we blessed/fortunate/relived that we don;t have the Hams and their toys.

Sorry, I don't understand your meaning.

Hams = Clans - (I hate the Clans - they killed the franchise in my opinion) Anyways Ham mechs mount most of their weapons in the arms - the Omnimech concept.

XL engines??? I "real mechwarrior" would understand the difference between succession war IS tech and SL/clan tech. So yeah, learn to understand the limitations of succession wars tech.
Lore says "The technology wouldn't resurface in the Inner Sphere until 3035, when it was rediscovered by the Lyran Commonwealth. "

Hardpoints........Hardpoints never changes! *coughing narrator voice*

Some Players refuse to field Mechs that can't boat medium lasers, some refuse to go out without 3+ srm racks.
It's firepower versus battlefield versatility.
The Wolverines are latter and while i agree that the 6R is a bit s**t in MW5 due to it's hardpoints, the 6M and 6K can be turned into good, speedy brawler mechs.
Shadowhawk 2H and the Wolverine 6R are 2 examples of mechs that you should avoid, if you can get anything else instead.

Lorewise a Wolverine would rather jump around and ambush you or try to outflank you to get into your back, while a Centurion or Hunchback is meant to fight first line and take it straight. The 6K kuritan Wolverine is the exception, because it's missing it's Jumpjets and fielding max armor instead. (turning it into a better Dragon imho)

I guess that you wouldn't give the new Ham Wolf ruler on Terra a warm welcome then in 3151? :D

Battletech is either classic 3025 or Dark Age for me.
Catalyst turned the Lyrans and Mariks into a cesspool of rotten sausage after 3140-51 in the Lore, i won't forgive them that kind of butchery in favor of the Hams!

Gentlemen we can bash the Hams later!

Right now we need to get on how the Wolverine is a pansy Mech for Davion sissys!

a "real" mechwarrior isn't going to conflate star league and clan tech, as those tech bases have about as much in common as star league and 3025-era tech does

Everytime i think about the 6R i have the picture of a jumping, mustache twirling nobleman with a fancy rapier in mind, that retreats because of exhaustion after a myriad of insults.

You must be new here, but the majority of clan tech is/was based on pre-succession wars, star league-era tech. There wasnt that much innovation done by the clans.

Well Davions have a habit of patrolling the Kurita border shouting out aggressive taunts with silly accents from their fortresses.
