Does this "cross play" with epic?

I bought this game at release when it was an epic exclusive. I always wanted to try co-op but being epic had no sort of community hub that made that incredibly difficult and i never got to try it. But now that it's on steam it looks like i have a chance and i might reinstall.

Yes, they sadly ported this to consoles aswell and there were casualties because of it.
Luckily, alot of can be fixed/modded and one was provided by PGI themselves.

The HotIS version of the game was designed for consoles. Not sure if this is sarcasm or not coming from you, so there's your answer.

Also on another note, yes full cross play is a thing with this game. I believe you can join based on lobby codes.

No, no sarcasm here. more ways to play the game, more better. so is there a match making system now, or do you still have to gather players from message boards up?

the "xbox" was probably meant for the Microsoft-Store-Version - MW5 (basegame)) is included in the Gamespass btw

you add the invite-code from other players to your contact-list, and can invite those people then, no mater which store they got the game from

If you and your friends both have the steam-version, you can join via the steam "join friend" option though

Nope, MW5 is genuinely out on XBOX (and MS gamepass)
