I hope the next DOOM game has no multiplayer

i said it. i said what we're ALL thinking. no multiplayer. no DM. no asymmetrical multiplayer. no co-op. nothing to do with other players. just single player only and nothing else.

multiplayer has NO right to exist in doom. a multiplayer mode would only KILL the franchise completely and put ID software out of work as a result of immediate layoffs.

I don’t think they’ll ever release an AAA FPS without some kind of multiplayer component. That’s just something customer expects, and that’s definitely something the shareholders expect. How are you going to sell skins if there is no multiplayer?

The only question is, where they will focus their efforts. We both hope it’s on the single player component, but I’m sure some will disagree.

Weird take - I hope they just keep BM - add a Slayer vs Slayer mode, and devote minimal resources/development to "evolving" it.

I think thats all it needs - put the rest into SP. This checks all the boxes for most fans.

Of course they're going to try to find a way to increase player retention, but I feel like there's got to be a way to do that without deathmatch/PvP that isn't congruent with SP content.

The topic is about whether id should implement an official MP mode in their next game. I’m sure the mod is amazing; but not many people will go through the trouble of modding their game. Some of them, console players, won’t even have that option.

p sure his point is that the multiplayer mode shouldn't require the community making mods to actually fix it. and most people aren't interested in battlemode anyway. and even if they were, laziness and easy access play a huge role. it's simply easier to just not play than pressing 3 buttons instead of 2, and that's exactly what i think is the case with modded multiplayer in eternal. even when modded multiplayer is objectively better. it's unfortunate, but that's just how it is.

Yeah, unironically true. I just think the notion of responding to mods with "Not official so it doesn't count" is just so willfully ignorant, like if I see someone's fanart and go "not official art so I can't enjoy it or interact with it".
