DOOM Eternal

DOOM Eternal

Lower FPS with DLSS 4 Transformer Model than native 1440p
First of all - I tried to set texture quality and overall quailty to "Low" and then to "Ultra-Nightmare" but that didn't helped.

After completing Doom 2016 i decided to complete Doom Eternal next and updated it's DLSS via Nvidia App to force DLSS 4 Transformer Model. Unfortunately instead of getting higher fps, i got ~15% fps drop with DLSS Quality in 1440p. Of course final picture was sharp and crisp than game's own AA (TSSAA i guess) but the fact that i lose so much performance because of UPSCALING is depressing. DLSS Performance (1280x720 to 2560x1440 upscale) have around 2-3% fps drop vs native... upscale from 720p and 2-3% lose. If somebody know a way out of this situation - plz leave a comment :csgo_despair:

You can force DLSS 4 in any game with DLSS by using official nvidia app, with dlss swapper, or just simply download latest DLSS.dll file and replace it in game's directory.

yea, i'm aware, but that is an unsupported thing

Why not LOL? It's just .dll file and not any game ever will, including Doom Eternal, require any specific DLSS version(game comes with 2.3 version which is outdated asf). I did the same thing with swapping .dll file with BF2042, DRG, Witcher 3, STALKER 2 and everything was perfect except for Eternal that have massive problems with RT and DLSS. I have never seen such ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that you have to set everything to "Low" then "Ultra" to gain FPS and now we have this, lower FPS with upscaling.

because it's not officially supported by the devs, they don't guarantee that using an unsupported version of dlss will improve performance

Vulcan is very special and capricious api. So no wonder about it. it doesnt like overlays, it doesnt like any type of AA except TAA, etc. So we adding dlss 4 in this list

With that said, it's strange that even RDR 2, one of the worst PC ports, managed to work flawlessly with DLSS 4 in DLAA mode with 75+ fps on Vulkan. And i met no problems with overlays and stuff like that, same with Doom 2016. I don't think that it's exactly the API problem, more likely some clumsy programmers who can't even implement RT and upscaling technologies.

P.S.: I tried original DLSS 2.3 and it have the same issues. It gives me just 5% fps boost on Quality and -5%(!?!?) on Performance mode. So yeah, developers at ID really are some kind of sad sacks.
Probably not a good idea to run Ultra Nightmare on a GPU that's only 8GB?

DLSS4 is largely more about picture quality than performance, even on officially supported games. I have tested DLSS 4 on Doom Eternal @4K. No issues and no performance loss. Then again, I'm running a desktop 4070 Super Ti with 16GB of VRAM.

I have no performance problems at all, and my VRAM usage stays around 7.3-7.5 gigs on Ultra Nightmare if RivaTuner is correct. And yeah, DLSS 4 is about picture quality than performance if we talk about J and K presets, but you will lose not more than 5% of performance compared to CNN model. Either way, there should be at least 15% performance boost on "Quality" .Anyway i already understood that DLSS in this game is broken, even with original DLSS .dll file, and there is nothing you can do bout' it. So i guess this thread kinda closed?

(btw the game was released when only Radeon VII, GTX1080ti and RTX2080ti had more than 8gigs of VRAM so it shouldn't be a problem, even the game says it will utilize 6.5 gigs)
