Annoying Boss Fights
Is it just me or are boss fight the least fun part of Doom games? I want to complete both Ancient Gods and base game on UN. I've perfected the combat and movement but can't bring myself to practice the Gladiator and Samur fights because they seem so tedious and disconnected from the flow of the game. Any tips to overcome this?

I prefer the DE bossfights to the 2016 ones, because most of them don't take place in a tiny room with only the boss. I like that fodder and a few heavies are included and you can move around. Nothing against shoot it til it dies, but flying around while you do is way more fun. That's why I love the Doom Hunter. Yes, the Gladiator is an exception, but not in any way worse the the Cyberdemon in 16.

The Boss Fight are definitely the weakest part of the game for me, especially the Samur fight. The best you can do is learn the fight well so you won't have to bother with them again.

Yeah, you have to learn them. That's how boss fights are. Did you win the 2016 fights immediately? They all had mechanics similar to the Gladiator. They all were isolated from the game in the same way. So what made them better? Doom Eternal is hard and you need to learn.

And never say you mastered the game. Not even the 100% runners would make that claim. I as a noob player who's getting constantly better am kind of glad that I get years of content without ever getting bored.

I have the feeling that some people think they are entitled to have UN handed over to them. It's certainly hard, but here's the good thing: you don't have to do it. You can do it next year. In two years. Til you die.

There are still people outta there UNing 2016. I myself haven't UNed Eternal yet, not even base game, but the goal is there, so I guess I won't stop playing DE for a vile :)

They wouldn't be so bad if they didn't attach the boss fights to regular long stages. At least gladiator you can practice and reload and get back there pretty quickly. The final 2 bosses (which themselves aren't very fun) require you to run the level in its entirety and only then you get to practice them. There's probably a trainer out there that can save game states but I'd rather not spend that much time on it.

I'm pretty sure Alstin posted a video about save states without using a trainer. I don't think it's hard.

I will say that boss fights get much easier as your skill develops. The Khan Maykr and Trial of Maligog are extremely quick and easy for me now and the Icon of Sin isn't difficult once you understand his attacks and have a strat for dealing with the spawns as they come.

Probably the toughest boss fight is Samur. It's extremely unforgiving in the last phase if you don't execute perfectly. If you don't delete the Pain Elemental's spirit and let it repossess a new one it's extremely difficult to recover from.

How is Gladiator "disconnected" from the flow of the game? In the first part he is basically a super easy marauder, and in the second part you can hurt him at any time and just have to dodge his attacks. He fits the game perfectly. Dodging his attacks is completely skill based too, there is no artificial difficulty or luck involved. He is a great boss.

Samur is even less disconnected, since the whole thing basically boils down to fighting spirited demons. It's just tedious and much easier to die in the last two phases. But it certainly doesn't require learning any new skills or attack patterns. If you want to complete UN, it's not going to be all fun.
